What we’re about

AAUW advances equity for women and girls through advocacy, education, and research. This established group welcomes new members who would enjoy belonging to a community that breaks through educational and economic barriers so that all women have a fair chance.

This Meetup is public outreach for our local branch (Tacoma and the surrounding area) which was established in 1907. We have monthly meeting from September through May with stimulating programs on timely topics. Our meetings are open to the public and we welcome visitors and prospective members. In addition, we have several special interest groups including two book clubs (daytime and evening), Papercrafters, Diggers & Delvers, Genealogy & Family History and Hot Topics. Each year we give scholarships to deserving women.

In principle and in practice, AAUW values and seeks a diverse membership. There shall be no barriers to full participation in this organization on the basis of gender, race, creed, age, sexual orientation, national origin, disability, or class.
If this group proves to be a good fit for you, we would love to have you become a member of AAUW. Please note that membership in AAUW is open to graduates holding an associate or equivalent, baccalaureate, or higher degree from qualified educational institutions. If you become a Branch Member, you will automatically also join at the state and national level.
