Utopian Visions: Searching for the Ideal Social Order

UPDATE: Click on More and click on files for UTOPIAN VKSIONS for the document below. (Sorry for the misspelling in the document name.)

I will soon make available for pre-session reading Chapter 14 Utopian Visions: Searching for the Ideal Social Order and the Epilogue from my forthcoming Book "The Human Nature of Religion, Science and the Social Order" along with several of its appendices. I am hoping to stimulate critical thinking about the utopian visions that have been advocated, the ideology behind them and their potential value as object lessons for differing visions of American democracy.

Good discussion. Thank you to Fred for the topic, prep, posted resources, and facilitation. After racking my brain (not hard to do), I traced the reference to the circus as tribe. It is Daniel Quinn's little book, Beyond Civilization: Humanity's Next Great Adventure (ISBN[masked]). A few quotes:

Tribes exist for their members—and for all their members, because all are perceived as involved in the success of the tribe. ... they don't keep the circus going to make money; they make money in order to keep the circus going. (An artist might see it this way...)

Everyone's interest lies in the success of the whole. What's good for the tribe is good for everyone, from the owner down to the the cotton-candy butchers.

What a trial people transmits to the next generation is not a ready-made fortune but rather a reliable way to make a living.

Good topic, lively discussion. Once again the people in this group revealed how intelligent, well-read, & dynamic they are.

I don't understand ... I thought I'd shifted from D. Baca to another site much closer to where I live and work: i forget her name, a home not a center. I'll see if I can recover the info - so far, no good, hmmm.

Dave, that meetup is in May. Please update your rsvp if you can't attend tonight as others on the waiting list can go. You also may want to check with Marion for the May meetup as the address listed on that meetup is not correct.

    Fred,

Did you want to move Mark to yes since there is a spot open? If you turn on automatic for the rsvp, then it will do this automatically in the future.

Wish I could go! But I have my little boy on Tuesdays. Last week was an exception.

Can someone tell me the correct location for this? Google map directions don't match the meetup address.

I put the phone number in the address if you want to call them or you can also google it. Mark also added a map under the files section. Thanks Mark!

What a beautiful coincident about this topic. My forthcoming book which I'm writing is: " Utopia and Utopians. I'm interested to learn more and understand other view points beside the existing ones. Whenever, higher consciousness gradually takes over the old one, the profound wisdom again comes up to fulfill its agenda. This is in relation to the spiral steps of life.
