Restaurant - Jenifer James 101

Jennifer James 101
4615 Menaul Blvd NE
Albuquerque, NM 87110
[masked]

JJ 101 is a VERY FINE establishment, but it's a small place and their largest table seats 8. I have reserved the communal table for Friday 1/10/13 at 6pm for 8 people.

I am requesting an up front fee for this event:  a $20 reservation deposit. $18 will be applied to your dinner ticket, and $2 to organizer & processing. JJ will split the ticket to individuals but they prefer not to. They asked that, if possible, we coordinate to accept a single bill amongst ourselves. So I am sticking to the $20 reservation deposit. Since the payment wasn't set up when most members RSVP'ed, I've put a support ticket into meetup HQ to ask how to facilitate this (after the fact) payment - still no reply on that. I see that several members have come back on line and paid their fee. So it's possible!

FAQ's

Where does the $20 go? Your $20 includes $18 towards your meal and tip, plus a Meetup organizer fee of $2 each. If you plan to spend more than about $15 (If you drink anything but water, or like to order large, that is super likely...) PLEASE BRING EXTRA CASH to make paying the combined bill easier. If you spend less than $15 you can request a refund at the time - or the difference will be given to the server as a tip. (your couple extra dollars can make the restaurant happy to have us again...:-)

If you cannot attend: You should let me know (on the site AND directly to my cell phone at[masked], voice or text) at least 48 hours in advance, then your $18 is refundable. The $2 may be kept as processing costs (to cover PayPal fees).

I appreciate everyone who has hung in there on this event despite my recent transition as group organizer and all the confusion. I hope we have a splendid dinner!!!

The food was good with few exceptions, but only a few items I found exceptional. I thought the garbonzo fries we're quite tasty with a wonderful warm soft soft texture and a really nice pesto mayonnaise dipping sauce. I also quite enjoyed the green relish/saladie type condiment for my fish (it seemed to have, perhaps, cilantro and mint in it?) however I thought the octopus & spinach appetizer was a mess, with some inappropriate textures and not nearly enough seafood. Lastly - if you go to Jennifer James 101 I suggest you skip dessert. I've been disappointed by desert all three times I've gone to this restaurant over the years.

    1. Please EVERYONE, please bring CASH to work out your TAB!!! Unless you are a very frugal eater, your tab is likely to be over $18... So BRING CASH.
    2. I just got a call from Kel, who may not make it. So I added Sarah, who was an overflow member-in-waiting... hopefully she can make it!

Ready for our first event with your new organizer? I'm excited to meet everyone but must remind a couple of you to pre-pay your deposit!!! ANYONE WHO HAS NOT PRE-PAID is in danger of getting nixed off the RSVP list! I've sent notes to all concerned, but will check for final PAID tally in the morning.

This is my favorite place in town, but I won't be in town on Friday. Oddly, I've never had a problem splitting checks before, at least with smaller groups. And the Thursday night dinners are definitely worth checking out for another time? I'd sign up!

    2 · January 4, 2014

They will split checks, but with a large groups she said they would prefer not to. Especially on a Friday night prime time.

Hey Foodies, while this would have been my first Foodies Meetup event, and I was fine with the prepay and slightly convoluted efforts to get it organized, the math shows the need for two people to bow out, and I'll be fine with my kids that night. Enjoy Jennifer James; I look forward to meeting you all at some of the next Foodies events. Cheers.

    • Chris (Crista) W.

Stephen, 3 othwr folks have declined and I would love it id you re-RSVP! I believe if you change your reservation back to yes, meetup will take you right through to the paypal link. We would love to have you. Thanks for your input!

      January 1, 2014

  • Chris (Crista) W.

hi everyone! I want to wish you all a Happy New Year! As to this event, we are definitely on and I have reserved a table for 8 for Friday January 10th. Wendy has step down as an event organizer and I will be present to handle the money and the bill. I've updated the instructions on the main event posting so please review those if you're confirmed and know that they are still in effect. I am still asking people to pre pay the $20 an $18 of that will be applied directly to your food bill and tip. if you are averse to using PayPal, please contact me directly and we can make other arrangements. However paypal is not difficult and you do not need to have your own account to pay that way. you can use thw PayPal link and use your own credit card. This is my preference in respect of the restaurants policy regarding dividing checks and also in respect to organizer history, what I have found to be most effective with meetup groups and higher end restaurants.

    January 1, 2014

  • wendy

Sorry folks. I'm bailing to. just too complicated and I'm still not comfortable with the $2 service fee. Since the number attending has dwindled, I believe Crista will try to join and handle the finances for the evening. I'm sure the meal will be memorable. Enjoy!!

    December 31, 2013

  • Ingrid T

I'll bow out this time too, but would love to check it out sometime in a smaller group, possibly on a Thursday that they offer their $25 three-course deal. Look forward to meeting you all at another event.

    December 31, 2013

  • Chris (Crista) W.

I went ahead and made a reservation on Jan 10 @ 6 pm for 8 people. That's the maximum for one table. They also prefer not to split the checks up. And that's why I was advocating the upfront $20 deposit for this event. If you might order more than $15 worth of food (15+2.50 tip is 17.50...) PLEASE BRING CASH so the host can adjust the bill accordingly. Please note, the $20 is $18 towards your meals and $2 to the organizer/Paypal fee. See above for refund policy.

Lastly I need a volunteer from one of the folks who are already committed to attend who will act as the event host. This person will handle the bill, the math, and any communication with the restaurant. I will also hand over the $2 per person fee (less PayPal %...?) to facilitate that. Anyone interested? Plz call me if u are: 440-6293. I am correcting my earlier note: It was a typo, we ARE reserved for 6PM. Still. Thanks!

    December 30, 2013

    • Chris (Crista) W.

Wendy has volunteered to be an event host - so I will still deal with the $ to RSVP but you will look for her and communicate with her the day of the event. THANK YOU WENDY!

      December 30, 2013

  • Chris (Crista) W.

PS: I have a support request into Meetup HQ about how to enact retroactive payments. If nothing else, I'll send each person who is RSVP'd here a note asking them to prepay their $20, and anyone who does not prepay OR CALL ME to make alternative arrangements about such will be UN-RSVP'd...

    December 30, 2013

  • wendy

Thanks Crista. First, did you say the reservation is at 10pm? I assume you mean another time. I'd be happy to act as facilitator/organizer and re-distribute the $2/per person BACK to those who attend. I am TOTALLY against someone making money off of this other than the restaurant. I have not paid but AM interested in going. Happy to prepay $20, knowing that I will spend more. Thoughts....

    December 30, 2013

    • Chris (Crista) W.

I realized that the PayPal fees are pretty high, so the $2 will be largely swallowed up by that. I stand by my commitment to give whatever is NOT swallows by PayPal to the event organizer. You can use it against your own food ticket, or just enhance the servers tip. Totally your choice.

      December 30, 2013

    • Chris (Crista) W.

Besides, I still haven't figured out how to add the registration deposit after the fact. so hold on for that info.

      December 30, 2013

  • wendy

Actually, I trust that those that attend will pay, so would rather just proceed with paying what you owe at the restaurant and not prior. The bigger problem is we have 10 attending so 2 more than the reservation....not quite sure what to do about that??

    December 30, 2013

  • wendy

Someone initially posted the event as a starting point as she wanted to go to JJ101...it wasn't me but I immediately responded that I'd love to go to. Others followed. The restaurant can accommodate a reservation of 8 or 2 reservations of 6. The 2 6's may not be sitting together or even at the same time, but probably close to each other in timing...I don't get the $20 fee though...mainly the $2 meetup organizer fee???. Clearly folks want to go. Of the 12 that have registered if someone is sort of iffy or unsure, please change your RSVP now. If we can get it down to 8, this could be manageable.

Crista, it's all yours...I called JJ101 and received a message back from Nellie, so you can speak to her. Thanks for your help.

    December 19, 2013

    • Chris (Crista) W.

The $20 fee is $18 towards your dinner tab, and $2 to the organizer/group. Historically, organizers have found that if people have some skin in the game, (ie they have prepaid they're $20) they are more likely to show up. There's no worse feeling than showing up at a nice restaurant with the reservation for 12 or 15 and having three members show up. We've taken way huge amount of space from that restaurant and you feel quite the fool as the organizer sitting there waiting for more members to show up. That's what the $20 is about...

      December 22, 2013

    • Chris (Crista) W.

Thanks for the note Wendy! I've just been too slammed to even try to call Jennifer James. I will probably get a chance to call Nellie on Monday - that's usually my day off from Real Estate...

      December 22, 2013

  • Marcie G.

Never mind. Thanks for the thought. I think it's gotten too complicated so I will bow out. Have fun!

    December 19, 2013

  • Chris (Crista) W.

I have changed the limit to 12 and the protocol to a required $20 fee to RSVP this event... however, I don't know how to enforce this after-the-fact. So hold on until I can confirm reservations, date, and time with JJ and then - if you want to be sure you are not "un-RSVPed" you will want to pay the fee to confirm your spot. Sorry for the confusion everyone!

    December 18, 2013

  • Chris (Crista) W.

Sorry, everyone, but Whoever posted this event did so without my knowledge. I am completely overwhelmed at all this... I did not know when I took over the group that ANY member can schedule an event. (?) I am changing that protocol right now and closing this event to further RSVP's. Please expect a limit change, fee change, and possible date change as I try to work with whoever is going to actually HOST this event. WHO would like to HOST this event? Susan Forbes? Wendy?

My cell is (505)[masked] please text me and well set up a time to discuss logistics.

    December 18, 2013

  • wendy

OK folks...hoping Crista closes this event as it's already a bit large. Just called JJ 101 and they have to get back to me on how to best accommodate. Sounds like 2 tables of 6 will work but it's not totally certain, although sounds doable. If anyone else RVSPs, I think we need to say no to them. This is getting complicated huh? It'll be worth it for sure :)

    1 · December 18, 2013

  • wendy

Good thinking. 12 seems like a max kind of number but unsure how to limit others...anyone know? We can always make 2 reservations for 6 or something. But I do agree that perhaps this is it for attendees...thoughts?

    • wendy

I emailed Crista so we'll see if he closes the event. Happy Holidays everyone!!

We should probably call the restaurant too and make sure two groups of 6 is OK. From what I recall it's pretty tiny. If it's a problem, we could maybe split into two events.

      December 18, 2013

  • MARIA D

It is a small venue and in the past our large groups seem to put these smaller establishments in a stressful position.
Service can be very slow, not every gets food at the same time. And sometimes the quality of food suffers as well.
