I plan is to show up at 9am and will ask Dan to do the same. We'll get the initial ropes in at the top. Then, as people show up they can check these anchors and we'll send some folks down each rappel to setup the 2nd & 3rd rappels. So far we have my 220' rope, Dan's 220' rope, and Dan's 320' rope. We need at least one more rope that is at least 130'. Even better would be to get one or two more than that and we can setup two routes for the first rappel, the long rappel from the top to the bottom of the second rappel, one route for the second rappel, and two routes for the third rappel. Maybe we can checkout the LA Mountaineer's canyoneering ropes? Several of us are members. We'll meet at the dead-end of Kimberly Ln. in White Rock, 100 Kimberly Lane, White Rock, NM. The first rappel is just a couple hundred yards to the southwest of the parking at the end of Kimberly.
I can bring a couple more 220's and a 120 if needed... rather use the club's ropes though :)
I have the two 220' LAM club ropes. I'll bring them plus my 320' and another 220'.
Brett: Let's plan to bring enough ropes so that we don't have to use the clubs ropes. I think there may be liability issues with non-club members using club equipment. Also, the LAM board seems opposed to anything "meetup"... if we are forced to choose, I say we keep our announcements here and forget about LAM.
Dan: I agree. I do have the sheets that the club wants signed and it includes language about non-club members being OK, but...it was sort of a hassle to get use of the ropes. I'll bring my 60m climbing rope too. I haven't received my 110' from Rich yet, so the 220' is the only other one I have. I have plenty of webbing and rapides, though.
I'll bring my three 220' (two have matching pull cords) and the 320'. I'll have the two club ropes too, just in case.
Thanks, Jeff. I don't think that will be necessary, but I happen to be the membership secretary so it would be easy enough.
It was fun. We setup a new anchor on the last rappel, so there are two ways down now. I think we may put some bolted hangers in on a couple rappels that way the anchor can be high and close to the edge, making pulling the rope easier. Watch this group for future events. We use this canyon regularly for practice and fun. Let us know what good days are for you to be able to go.
Sunday is better than Saturday; then my husband could go too. I can also go Monday, Tuesday, Thursday provided I can be back in Santa Fe by 2:30. Thanks for asking. We'd love to get out.
Hi Alia. That sounds good. Just let us know when you have an open Sunday (I believe you have my email). We are always ready for more fun :)
Please include me next time you go out. I'm needing the ropes practice.
