PHYSICAL BENEFITS OF MEDITATION:
A Harvard Medical School team in 2008 suggested that meditation may protect our cells from damage associated with aging, as well as from autoimmune disease and other inflammatory conditions. Researchers found about 50 percent more electrical activity in the left frontal regions of the brains of meditators as brainwave patterns change and neuronal firing patterns synchronize. .
Researchers at UCLA Laboratory of Neuro-Imaging compared the brains of experienced meditators with those of a control group of non-meditators. They found that the meditators' brains contained more gray matter — the tissue responsible for high-level information processing.
In 2007 Emory University Scientists also found that those who meditated regularly seemed to avoid some normal age-related decline of gray matter and increased thickness of the cortex in areas involved in attention and sensory processing..
