Create Dialogue Driven Scenes, led by Suzanne Woods Fisher

Suzanne is multi published and we're so pleased she'll join us to lead a workshop on creating dialogue- driven scenes. Dialogue- done well- can change the pace of your story, develop characters and so much more. There's a lot happening in between those quotation marks!

Coffee is provided. We have a book swap table (bring a few, take a few).

We'll have the optional no host lunch at Bajis (just down the road) after as well.

Please note the chapter member price is 5.00, guest price is 15.00.

I've been told not to include what the character is doing physically in the same sentence as the dialogue. It's been suggested to me that I should just end or start the dialogue sentence with, he said, he mumbled, etc., and then use a separate sentence for the character's physical reaction. I'l like to know Suzanne's thoughts on that. An editor told me this - she said it distanced her from the character when I would write, for example, "Ack! A beggar, eh? By the gods!" The boy wagged a finger, "You had better leave before my parents see you, or they might have you arrested!" Instead, it was suggested I write: "Ack! A beggar, eh? By the gods!” The boy wagged a finger at Sam. "You had better leave before my parents see you. They might have you arrested!"

I'll bet you'll be able to get Suzanne's take on this and other input. Some of it is going to be personal preference too. Looking forward to seeing you Saturday!
