Triathlon is a young, all-inclusive sport that is growing rapidly in popularity and profile - the only difference here is that we help athletes with disabilities to take on the toughest challenge in sport.
Triathlon is an endurance event consisting of swimming, cycling and running over various distances. These events are placed back-to-back in immediate sequence and a competitor's official time includes the time required to "transition" between the individual legs of the race, including any time necessary for changing clothes and shoes.
The Achilles Triathlon Team, a program of the Achilles New York City Chapter, enables athletes with disabilities to compete in triathlon events by pairing them with volunteer guides.
Achilles triathletes have now completed three triathlon seasons - consisting of upto six triathlons per season. These included the Nautica New York City Tri – over the Olympic distance of 1 mile swim, 24 mile bike, and 6.2 mile run.
