About the Group

This group is for the more experienced riders who simply like to ride their motorcycles and want to ride with others! If you are a new or inexperienced rider, please join our other group - San Antonio Beginners on Bikes.
http://www.meetup.com...
In order to join this group, you need to:
1. Read and Understand the About Us pages (including the Group Waiver). You are doing that now.
2. Fill out all the questions on your profile.

This group was started December 28, 2007 using the SA BoBs for it's core membership.
Our purpose is to ride, meet new friends, and most of all, have fun!! Sometimes there is a destination and other times the ride is the destination. We are a diverse group and we always welcome more members but we ask that you be active. Your input is important so don't be afraid to speak up!

This is not a club, no officers or leaders or dues. This is not a dating service, although anyone that rides and wants to meet other single riders is welcome.

The enjoyment that we receive from our rides is not solely based on the ride itself - it is heavily dependent upon YOU!! So join up today and help set the course for our group!
Explore the site and come back often as it does change a lot!

All types of bikes are welcome! Whether you ride a Harley Davidson, Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki, sport bike, or cruiser -whatever! You are welcome to ride with us.

About the Site

The Organizer (and the Assistant Organizers) run the web site (within the bounds of what meetup.com allows). They can post calendar entries, moderate the message board, add new members, etc. (Moderate means if someone puts something up that is inappropriate, we can delete it.)

You don't have to RSVP for every ride. But the group would like to know, from time to time, why you aren't going on some of the rides. If we only get 'yes' RSVP's, then the rides that are posted will continue to be the ones that are posted. But if you RSVP with a 'no', and tell us why you can't go on rides from time to time, we can start to add rides that you can go on.
This does NOT apply to the "social events" (Bike Nights). The only reason to RSVP there at all is if you plan to attend, and that allows others to see who might be there to socialize with.
Asst Organizer Jorge is the "Editor" for Bike Nights. Please contact him if you have any questions or suggestions about those.

If don't use the site for two months, you may be dropped. Don't take it personal, you can come back by sending the organizer an email or by simply rejoining and participating. You don't have to attend rides if you don't want to or don't see any you like.
Members who participate on rides or events and use the message boards are also less likely to get dropped.

This site is supported by donations, not dues.
Donations means "voluntary". Donations means "you don't have to".
If you go on a lot of rides and enjoy the site, then you will probably feel that you should donate, and that is the way it should be. If you still don't feel a need to donate.. so be it. It ain't about the money anyway.
It only says $5.00 on the Home page because it has to say something, and that seemed like a reasonable amount. Donate $1.00, donate $10.00. No matter the amount, it will be duly recorded.
Please do not donate until you have been on a ride or two and decide it is worth it.

Explore the site and come back often as it does change a lot!

About Riding with the Group

The Organizer is not in charge of all the rides. The person leading a ride is the person "in charge". He decides the route, the lunch stop, the breaks, everything. If you have a suggestion about the ride, let him know, but don't expect him to take it. He may put it up to a vote, he may not. He is the LEADER, and that is what keeps the group a group.
If you don't like the way a ride is lead, setup a ride of your own. You don't have to be the Organizer or one of the Assistants to setup a ride. Notice I did not say "lead a ride". You can set up a ride (where and when to meet, route, where to stop for breaks, where to end, etc). You MAY be able to lead a ride if you have enough experience.

The leader is responsible for the pace, watching for road hazards, knowing where to turn, finding parking, watching for the sweep, communicating with the group via signals, etc, etc.

The leader will usually designate a "sweep" rider. That is the last rider in the group, and an experienced rider. The sweep is responsible for keeping everyone in front of him, handling riders who have to pull over, etc, etc.

Before you come out on a ride, be prepared!
That means:
Know the expected ride route, (where we will be riding and how long the ride might be (both in miles and time)). You should be able to find your way home when the ride is over, or if you have to leave the ride early. Routes are always posted on the Event, either as a link to a map site, or as a set of instructions.
Know what the weather might be like and have the proper gear (or choose to ride without it.)
Know whether or not we plan to stop and eat so you either eat before we ride or eat during the ride.
Show up with a full tank of gas, unless you know you can make it to a planned stop where there is gas.
It is unlikely anyone will get left behind, but it isn't impossible, please prepare for it. Ask for cell phone numbers if you are uncomfortable with that prospect.

When on rides with other members, everyone will respect each other skills and riding styles. That means if someone does something you think is unsafe, don't ride close to them. They may be better than you and can deal with it. Drop off to the side and let the Sweep know you are changing positions.. and why.
If you are uncomfortable back by the sweep, then let him know and leave the ride. No one forced you to go on a ride, and no one will force you to stay on one. You can leave a ride any time, but we need to know when you do!

Please.. if you have questions about a ride, ASK!! If you are not sure about something.. ASK!!! If you are too embarrassed to ask, then ask for a private conversation with the leader or sweep.
What we don't want is a rider in the group who is not sure of something, and distracted because of it.

Rules?

All bikes must be street legal.

SAFETY is the #1 Issue. If you are riding in an unsafe manner to yourself or others - you WILL be asked to leave.

Drinking and riding is a big No-No. That's for both your safety and that of your fellow riders. Drinking after riding is preferred.

Helmets & protective gear also highly recommended.

A good attitude and desire to have fun!!

Our Goals?

Individuals of all ages, genders, races - all walks of life - enjoying the opportunity to become friends and share their love of riding.

Group rides with a lot of riders.

The bottom line:

We like to safely ride our bikes and have fun! Come join us!
