Stock the Pantry at the LA Food Bank!

Fellow Atheists, hello!  Many of you have said you wanted to do the Food Bank again and it seems they always need help, so let's do it in April!  I know you like getting your hands on all that food!

L.A. Regional FoodBank provides food support to numerous community agencies serving Los Angeles, ranging from large homeless shelters that feed hundreds of people a day to small daycare programs. It is the second largest foodbank operating in the United States.

Volunteer Project: Come on down with fellow atheists -- and some other L.A. Works volunteers -- to sort, stack and shelve valuable food to distribute to the hungry throughout Los Angeles. Make someone's day, or dinner!

Since we're such a new group, I've been conservative and tried to "reserve" 10 spots.  If we get better response, I'll try and get more volunteer spots. (So if you RSVP "yes," please plan on coming!)  It was really fun last time!

Hours are 8:30 AM -- 12 noon.

Jolie

Additional details:

Requirements:

  • Volunteers for this project must be at least 14 years of age.  (Sorry kids!)
  • Please arrive between 8:00am - 8:20am for parking and check-in.
  • ALL volunteers must bring a signed L.A. Regional Foodbank Release Form. Volunteers under 18 must have it signed by a parent/guardian.  (I will e-mail these forms before the event.)

Dress Code: Casual attire and closed-toe shoes. Prohibited attire: tank tops, sleeveless shirts, sandals, open-toe or high-heeled shoes.

Minors: Any volunteer under the age of 18 will need to bring and have signed by a parent/guardian an L.A. Works Volunteer Agreement & Release for Minors.

Accessibility: L.A. Works firmly believes that we strengthen the social fabric of our community by involving all in service. If you feel you need accommodations to participate in this project please let me know.

    L. A. Works is an organization which links volunteer opportunities with volunteers. Organizations post their events and needs on that site. It's very helpful for those of us who want to volunteer.

Eventually I'd like to connect with organizations who need help directly, but for the moment, L. A. Works is indispensable.
