Stock the Pantry at the LA Food Bank!

Fellow Atheists, it's time to do the LA Food Bank again!

L.A. Regional FoodBank provides food support to numerous community agencies serving Los Angeles, ranging from large homeless shelters that feed hundreds of people a day to small daycare programs. It is the second largest foodbank operating in the United States.

Volunteer Project: Come on down with fellow atheists -- and some other L.A. Works volunteers -- to sort, stack and shelve valuable food to distribute to the hungry throughout Los Angeles. Make someone's day, or dinner!

Hours are 8:30 AM -- 12 noon.

Additional details:

Requirements:

  • Volunteers for this project must be at least 14 years of age.  (Sorry kids!)
  • Please arrive between 8:00am - 8:20am for parking and check-in.
  • ALL volunteers must bring a signed L.A. Regional Foodbank Release Form. Volunteers under 18 must have it signed by a parent/guardian.  (I will e-mail these forms before the event.)

Dress Code: Casual attire and closed-toe shoes. Prohibited attire: tank tops, sleeveless shirts, sandals, open-toe or high-heeled shoes. Note: Be sure to bring something warm, because one time we sorted food in a much cooler part of the warehouse.  We don't know where they will ask us to help!

Minors: Any volunteer under the age of 18 will need to bring and have signed by a parent/guardian an L.A. Works Volunteer Agreement & Release for Minors.

Accessibility: L.A. Works firmly believes that we strengthen the social fabric of our community by involving all in service. If you feel you need accommodations to participate in this project please let me know.

Pei-Yu -- I'm glad/sorry (?) that the event is filled up! I'm glad, of course, that's it is almost full, but I'm sorry you can't come. If you want to sign up, then one of you would go on the waiting list; I'm not sure how that would work in the Meetup. You can try it if you want, so we will know... Sometimes things come up and people change their reservations the last few weeks. Also, if it's just one person on the waiting list, we may be able to accommodate them since the Food Bank is a huge place and they don't check too closely and always have a lot of work. Sign up, if you don't mind, and I'll email to see if we can sneak in one more. If not, you can cancel.

I am too late to RSVP. It is too bad that only one spot left. My husband and I really want to go. I think we will wait for the next time.

Hi all, Had to move this event to August from July because the organizer cancelled, just for July 20, due to something happening at LAWorks.

We just grab a coffee and speak French. Some people have been coming every week for months... it creates a kind of warmth to the group.
