Stock the Pantry at the LA Food Bank!

Fellow Atheists, it's time to do the LA Food Bank again!

L.A. Regional FoodBank provides food support to numerous community agencies serving Los Angeles, ranging from large homeless shelters that feed hundreds of people a day to small daycare programs. It is the second largest foodbank operating in the United States.

Volunteer Project: Come on down with fellow atheists -- and some other L.A. Works volunteers -- to sort, stack and shelve valuable food to distribute to the hungry throughout Los Angeles. Make someone's day, or dinner!

Hours are 8:30 AM -- 12 noon.

Additional details:

  • Volunteers for this project must be at least 14 years of age.  (Sorry kids!)
  • Please arrive between 8:00am - 8:20am for parking and check-in.
  • ALL volunteers must bring a signed L.A. Regional Foodbank Release Form. Volunteers under 18 must have it signed by a parent/guardian.  (I will e-mail these forms before the event.)

Dress Code: Casual attire and closed-toe shoes. Prohibited attire: tank tops, sleeveless shirts, sandals, open-toe or high-heeled shoes. Note: Be sure to bring something warm, because one time we sorted food in a much cooler part of the warehouse.  We don't know where they will ask us to help!

Minors: Any volunteer under the age of 18 will need to bring and have signed by a parent/guardian an L.A. Works Volunteer Agreement & Release for Minors.

Accessibility: L.A. Works firmly believes that we strengthen the social fabric of our community by involving all in service. If you feel you need accommodations to participate in this project please let me know.

I may be interested, Angela. I usually suggest going to lunch after the Meetup, but I didn't know about the the San Antonio Winery. Great that you know of this place!

Anyone interested in going out to lunch after? The San Antonio Winery is only 15 mins away. They offer casual dining, free winery tours and 3 free tastings. Yelp link:

We just grab a coffee and speak French. Some people have been coming every week for months... it creates a kind of warmth to the group.
