Thanks for your e-mail. It was nice to take the time to write itand take the time to do some in between organizing.

I attended one meeting in the early days of just moving to Austin. The one perception I have of Austin between this design meet-up and the AIGA here is everyone really likes to drink. While that is not a bad thing it is difficult to find a group who is interested in all the great subjects and topics of design. In the "bar" situation it does create an atmosphere of a "pick up" situation-your mentality changes and attitude may change when you are there to really just talk about type or a new paper or interactivity in web design.

I think there is a real opportunity to take this group to the next level and even create some situations about design in Austin that can be respected by the community.

I vote for a coffee location -where one may speak and hear.

>

Hi, first off, my name is Fletch, I'm the new organizer, I rescued the group (literally at the last minute) back in April. I need to start by apologizing to everyone for not having been in contact, or actually done much of anything, since I took over the reins. My lame excuse is that at almost the exact same time I took over the organizership here, I was laid off from my job, and suddenly my priorities underwent a big reshuffling.

The main reason for this message is to make a special request for as many people as possible to try and make June's meeting. I need help. I didn't want to see the group just die, but I really didn't intend to take over as the permanent organizer. I can probably do this through the summer, or if I get some help on the fees maybe longer. But mostly I need help with ideas and suggestions on what to do to get the group back on its feet again. That's what I want to discuss most of all at our next meeting.

Also, what I really need input on immediately is how to find a new place to meet. I've heard many people say we need a different place than Halcyon before, so I'm definitely wanting suggestions from anybody about places they think would work well for as many people as possible to meet.

I personally like Flightpath Coffee, where the Flash group has met a number of times. It's up on Duval near 51st, away from downtown, plenty of parking nearby, and its not as loud and cramped inside.

But I'm not necessarily saying that's where we should have our next meetup. Anyone with any ideas, please post them here or email me. They don't have to be a restaurant/bar/coffeshop-type place.

Please respond to this email with any suggestions you have, or post your suggestion in the thread that's been started on our Meetup message board:

I really look forward to seeing you guys on June 3rd. Thanks in advance for your patience, your understanding and your support.
