First off folks, thanks for being patient with me with all these emails. This one is where I'm answering any questions you may have about what I've been up to with our group's calendar. In a way. the group is expanding. Here's the situation:
Most of you know that our Meetup serves a second function- we are also a "clublet" under the umbrella of the Launchpad Job Club. There's another clublet that serves our same interests, called the Artists' Alliance, although they're focused more on community arts and fine arts, not so much on technology like ATXDM is. They also function a lot more like a regular job club, while ours is more focused on networking, sharing, learning and demonstrating. Between our two groups, we try to have one meeting each week. This is to help our members who are unemployed and have to meet Texas requirements for their job search activities. So, the first thing I've done that you may have noticed is that I went ahead and added all of the Artists' Alliance meetings to our schedule. They're set on auto-repeat, for the second and fourth Thursdays of each month at 1:30pm. There's also no need to RSVP for these meetings, they're always in the same place (Recycled Reads on Burnet), so I've set these meetings to not be announced in our regular email, and not accept more than one RSVP (which is always me by default). By all means, if you're looking for work and you're available in the afternoon, I recommend attending one of their meetings. Second, specific to this month, because of how the days of the month fall, our regular meetings (first and third Wednesdays) are in the same weeks as the second and fourth Thursdays that the Artists' Alliance meets. So this means I've scheduled extra meetings to fill in the weeks where we wouldn't have one. So next week we'll be having a special joint meetup with the Austin Flash group, then the following week will be our usual "third Wednesday" meetup at Howson Branch Library, and then the last week in July we'll be doing another special joint meetup, this time with a clublet for writers called "The Write Job". As I mentioned in my earlier email, I now have this schedule visible at an easy glance. Just head over to http://www.atxdm.org... Thanks everyone, I really appreciate your continued participation in the group, and also thanks for being patient with me with all these announcements! As always I encourage and welcome any feedback you have, just reply back to me, or post on the meetup group's message board. Fletch |
