Musical Cornucopia at Thanksgiving Dixieland Festival No. 33
The Town & Country Resort and Convention Center in Hotel Circle is the site of the 33st Annual
San Diego Thanksgiving Dixieland Jazz Festival Nov. 21-25. 2012.
A cornucopia of musical styles from Western Swing to Traditional Jazz will be presented by America’s Finest City Dixieland
Jazz Society. Among the weekend’s highlights:
• A Wednesday night pre-festival concert-dance, with San Diego’s own Dixie Express and the Dave Bennett Quartet.
• Town & Country Thanksgiving Buffet (Thursday afternoon) with live jazz.
• Top traditional jazz groups, including the Cornet Chop Suey, Black Swan Classic Jazz Band,
Grand Dominion Jazz Band, Tim Laughlin/Connie Jones & the New Orleans All Stars.
• Authentic Western Swing music
• Dixieland and swing music by Tim Laughlin, Connie Jones and the New Orleans All-Stars; Cornet Chop Suey; Anita Thomas; the Night Blooming Jazzmen; High Society Jazz Band; Mission Bay High School Dixieland Band and the Dave Bennett Quartet.
• Solo jazz and ragtime piano sets in the Convention Center foyer throughout the weekend, featuring boogie woogie great Carl Sonny Leyland.
• Blues, swing and jump music by San Diego’s own Sue Palmer and her Motel Swing Orchestra, with vocalist Deejah Marie.
• A Ragtime Extravaganza featuring San Diego’s Heliotrope Ragtime Orchestra and vintage dancers in costume.
• “JazzSea Jams” led by cornetist Dick Williams offers an opportunity for musically-inclined festival patrons to jam with an organized band.
• Guest artist Chloe Feoranzo (clarinet and sax) will appear with various bands throughout the Festival.
• Performances during the weekend by San Diego-based Dixieland, traditional jazz and banjo bands.
• A Sunday morning “hymn-a-long” featuring Gospel music, performed by the Night Blooming Jazzmen.
All these events—except the Thanksgiving Buffet—are included in the price of a five-day, all-events
badge ($95). Daily Badges—Wednesday 7-11pm ($15), Thursday 7-11pm ($20), Friday 10am-11pm ($40), Saturday 9am-11pm ($40), Sunday 8am-5pm ($25) Multi-day and Youth Badges
are also available. 12 & under are free when accompanied by an adult. Active Duty Military personnel are admitted free with government-issued ID.
