The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention is the only national not-for-profit organization exclusively dedicated to understanding and preventing suicide through research and education, and to reaching out to people with mood disorders and those affected by suicide loss.

In 2010, Amber Boyd started this Meetup group in Orange County to give a broader voice to this organization, and to invite others who are looking to volunteer with AFSP or receive support from its resources. Currently the group is organized by Alex and Christine. (Look under the "Organizers" category on the left hand side of the page to know more.)

Who should join: Anyone who cares about our mission! Whether you are someone who has suffered suicidal depression, someone who has lost a loved one to suicide, or someone who simply cares about our cause, the OC AFSP Chapter welcomes you into our group.  Our members are ready to meet people from all walks of life who are passionate about volunteering and our mission.

Every 18 minutes someone in the U.S dies by suicide. This group aims to connect people together who want to change that. Together we can help to prevent suicide, provide support for those left behind, and reduce the stigma surrounding mood disorders.
