Dresden Files: Freeport

Freeport is a custom urban fantasy setting not set in the Dresdenverse or on Earth. It uses a slightly modified version of The Dresden Files RPG. The game power level is Chest-Deep (8 refresh, 30 skill points, skill cap at Superb). Fudge dice will be provided.

The initial plan is to run about six weeks, but if the game goes well, it may continue on a different night or after a hiatus. I would prefer a game focused on social interaction and character development with only perhaps 15-20% physical combat, but that is ultimately at the mercy of player agency. Three players would be swell, four would probably be ideal, and I don’t think I could handle more than five.

The setting is documented here:

It would be really helpful if you could browse a copy of “Your Story”, the first Dresden Files player manual, before the game, but you can get a lot of mileage out of the references here:

http://www.evilhat.com/home/dresden-files-rpg-downloads/

and especially out of this one:

Part of the character creation process, the two guest star aspects, needs to be done in a group setting. But I encourage you to get started with character concepts and to contact me with questions or arrive a bit early if you want help.

Technically since ATL is still in a state of emergency, can we do the PC gen online? My subd is full of hills and still icy. During the day it's easy to avoid but at night.....I'm actually nearly complete with my background which I then use to built a PC. If we don't want to use this forum my email is [masked]

Skype is available for Linux, but I can certainly understand not wanting to pollute your computer with Microsoft software. Wikipedia lists 7 free & open VoIP clients available for both Windows and Linux, so we should be fine however firm your convictions. Or you -- any of you -- can email me at ashley dot jackson at mail dot com.

Ventrilo is easy to use and available for Mac, Windows, and Linux. I can easily install the server on my machine.

Hi I'm here and sort of lost?

Sorry. With all the snow we have to catch up today. Getting slammed. I don't think I will be done in time.

Urk. Well, with only two, neither of whom have played DF before, we'll probably concentrate on character, system, and setting, leaving most of the plot till next time.

Thanks for letting me know. Hope to see you Sunday. And you're always welcome here, even if the group cap is reached.

Actually, I have everything on my laptop. I'm working on a background and then my character sheet should match it. I want to play half Sidhe.

Any idea where I could buy Fudge dice in Atlanta? I haven't used them before.

I got mine at Doctor No's. Most comics and games stores should have a couple of packs in stock. Challenges, at North Dekalb Mall, would probably be more convenient for you. I haven't checked at Giga-Bites.

I checked with GigaBites, Titan, and FBC (I think that was the name), and none of them had any. I had ordered some, but they haven't been delivered yet thanks to the ice.

First with the ice, I want to make sure the game is still on. Can we use D6 and convert? Do you mind that I have no Dresden Files experience? Just started reading the book.

Based on this morning's forum announcement, Giga-Bites should be open. I'll be there. It's supposed to be warmer and sunny tomorrow and not quite reach freezing tomorrow night, so the ice should be over. You can use d6 if you really want to, but I have five sets of Fudge dice. And you don't need prior experience, though it would be lovely if you could bring your book.

I have both books on PDF that I'll have with me on my iPad and/or phone, if that will help. I haven't ever played in this system, either. :-)

Also, have you seen the Fate Freeport companion?

    January 27, 2014

    • Ashley J.

Oops. I did a couple of searches on the name before settling on it, but it didn't occur to me that a nice generic sounding name might already be used for a Fate setting. My Freeport is entirely unrelated.

And you may cap at six, including me. Thanks!

Do you want me to cap the number of players?
