Call of Cthulhu (Classic 1920's)

Call of Cthulhu is a horror RPG based on the works of H.P. Lovecraft.

We play on the first saturday of each month and you're welcome to join, this game is open to newbies and veterans alike.

New York City, November 1929.

In the week after the Wall St Crash, the investigators are called into a very sensitive case in Lower Eastside Manhattan.

A seance held for the wealthy Greenberg family has gone horribly wrong. The four family members and psychic Paul LeMond are found with their hearts ripped out and partially eaten....strange suicide notes are left with some phrases in Latin.

The seance was arranged by the dilettante Cassandra Bishop, one of the only two living descendants of notorious New England sorcerer Sermon Bishop. The other is her brother, Nathaniel Bishop, the eccentric owner of Stanton Street Cemetery and Bishop Mortuary...a man with a strange biological condition which makes him sensitive to sunlight.....

Here's what I tweeted about our game:
"In today's Call of Cthulhu session, my character saw a pack of ghouls and was later transported to another dimension. You know, the usual."
Now I get to spend the next month wondering what's waiting for my Investigator on the other side of that portal. ;)
This was another amazing Call of Cthulhu session. Thank you for running Paul!

no worries for those who can't make it. Tony has got the agent role covered. I know there are lots of bugs going around.

Also, for new characters, some knowledge of Hebrew and Latin wouldn't hurt....

Ok. How. Should we also make starting characters? (With no more skill points than those specified in character creation.)

      November 9, 2012

    • Paul M.

Let's do it tomorrow...looks like we have maybe five new characters. A few will be agents.

Also, with the size of the group, and purely for own entertainment, it's likely that you'll have to split up into two or three groups to tackle different parts of the investigation ;-)

Don't have a pre-gen, but can do one if you want. I have a "cheat sheet" to speed up character creation on the day.

Doctor is great...do you have a pre-generated character for a doctor?

    November 7, 2012

  • Paul M.

Lin, a doctor would be good in this one.

    Paul,

You definitely have a great group...lots of players...is there a character class/profession needed that you don't have?

    November 6, 2012

  • Paul M.

So...we have two agents, an antiquarian, parapsychologist, professor and priest in the lineup.
By my counting, got another four roles (Sandy, Spencer +1,Tony)...have a think and we'll have more agents, P.I, professor, journalist or maybe engineer.
I'm bringing the cheat sheets to do fast character generation at the start. As this is NYC, I'm open to bringing in other occupations such as Dilettante.

I can play anything that fits the game. I can also roll up a character prior to the game if that will help speed things up.

Cool. You can have a character that's "in" on project covenant...likes a '20s Delta Green. That's the deal with most of the other players. Go for anything you want though, this will be the usual...plenty of investigation, but a overall more "challenging" than usual.

      November 6, 2012

  • Paul M.

New story..will probably last two sessions. Welcome to hop in...it's a predecessor to Delta Green.
Plan is to move into modern DG setting next year...unless they really want to stay in the '20s.
If so, then I'll be rolling out "Masks" ;-)

It'll be Delta Green. Have you played any of the official scenarios? Will be using some of those...with "tweaks".

      November 6, 2012

    • Tony R.

I own the Delta Green book, but I haven't read any of the scenarios.

      November 6, 2012

  • Paul M.

Big group lined up.....that's good news for this scenario ;-)

    Hi!
Are you guys starting a new story arc (or scenario) or are you guys mid-story?

    November 2, 2012

  • Paul M.

Hi Spencer, just got Cthulhu planned fro Nov and Dec this year. "My Life With Master" will be a one-shot instead of Cthulhu in January next year.
Beyond that...still planning CoC but other possibilities are:
    Unknown Armies
    Vampire (probably Masquerade, maybe Requiem)
Rippers (a Victorian "Savage Worlds" horror hame....think of the Van Helsing movie)

They may be demos and lead on to regular sessions depending on how they go.

Hey Paul what all games are you going to be running? Just Cthulhu now?

    October 25, 2012

  • Paul M.

Each victims note has their signature in blood....followed by the phrase "Is Quisnam Est Vacuus Sin".
The phrase is in different handwriting...
