RSVP- if you dare!

“Halloween Music Mash in The Barn”

Saturday, October 26th from 2:00 until?(the/your end)?

Hosted by the Hyson’s

Many of our friends have asked us if we’d like to host a Halloween Party in THE Heated BARN, and we thought it would be a hoot, so here it is:

The Halloween Mash

We are concerned about the weather since it is getting chilly, but the barn will be heated adequately with propane space heaters. There will be sound for the stage and lights for the evening entertainment. We have taken into consideration everyone’s suggestions, and the stage set up will be a little different.

Costumes are not required but there will be prizes for the following: funniest, most original, and scariest; and everyone will be voting for their favorite costumes. There will also be a contest for the tastiest home-made chili. Now, can anyone beat this chili? It was June Carter Cash’s recipe! Five judges will let us know. There will be a bonfire again, and acoustic music will resume at the bonfire at around 8:00 p.m. or so after the costume prizes are awarded. We’ll see if Gary’s Great Uncle Nelson Rehmeyer, the man in the picture, who was hung for allegedly being a witch, will come back this year from the dead to seek his revenge once again. Let’s see if he does at the bonfire, where the true story will be revealed.

Bahahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Items you will need and other things to bring along:

· BYOB

· Chairs

· A Dish to share-no cake please. There will be birthday cake to share.

· Cameras and other electronics

· Costumes-it’s a hoot!

· Old shoes, no high heels, and items for the bonfire such as blankets, roasting rods for marshmallows and extra to share, hot dogs, etc.

Pointers and other stuff

No pig will die for the Mash, but other sacrifices are in the hands of Nelson.

By the way, anyone know what happened to our cat?

The bats are hanging in the rafters waiting for some good ole barn mash music!

Hope to see you at the Mash to get Witchy with us!!!!!!!

RSVP by 10/19/13

Please comment if you wish to enter the chili contest. The 1st 8 entries only due to electric outlet supply. If anyone has extra roasting rods, message us via Meetup. Gary can make some sticks for anyone that wants them to roast marshmallows.

Everyone was very pleased with the sound, so thank you Stu for doing such a great job, and I have to say your professionalism, respect for others, patients, reliability, and musicianship is commendable. A special thanks to Marv and Mike, not only are you both gifted musicians but your dedication, time, and, hard work that is given everyday does not go unnoticed. Also to Jeffrey Wolk, my friend and neighbor for taking some great pictures and we can’t wait to have him take pictures taken of our son. The other pictures that were taken were very good candid shots too and fun to look back on.
The jam at the end was an ultimate finish after a fine day of music. It was nice that everyone was able to have plenty of playing time and then relax and enjoy the bonfire.

The surprise that was not announced was our special guest, Nelson Rehmeyer’s granddaughter, who did card readings for many of the guest. If you’re interested in knowing about who she really is then google Hex murders and the name Nelson Rehmeyer should come up. Hollywood is coming to Rehmeyer’s hollow, where his granddaughter was born, to make a movie this summer. There is currently a book out now about the murder.

Here is a recap of the contest winners... The chili contest winner was Pamela Jennings, styling as “lady Gaga”. Larry Williams came in a close second place. The costume winners were claimed by the Hinkleman’s and guest, a clean sweep for prizes of light operated Halloween pictures. It turns out Pamela loves barns and she won the picture of a barn with the lighted lantern in the window and the Hinkelman’s mentioned they had been looking at pictures like the ones they won. I’m glad the contest winners were all pleased with their prizes.

I apologize for not getting this out earlier but we’re having trouble with the server. This will be broken down in parts and is very lengthily but needs to be posted.

Thank you everyone for coming out and celebrating with us, and bringing really good food, and for sharing your musical talent and for the ones that appreciated listening too. For the members that signed up but could not make it due to illness, I hope you’re feeling better soon. My son, Mitch, had a bad case of bronchitis and sore throat last week. Many people are also struggling right now with the change of the weather, and seasonal allergies, and the watery eyes, stuffiness, headaches, and the run down feeling that goes with it is the worst.

I'm so sorry to miss this. I've got a migraine. Have fun!

Thanks. I started to feel better yesterday but was too wiped out to join you all. I took a long nap instead. Feeling mostly better today but so disappointed I missed the bash.

      Missed you!!!

I'm thankful I got away alive and not on the spit over the bonfire. ;-) I gotta lose weight to so those hungry looks go away after midnight. Ok, all seriousness aside, these events turn into happenings fairly quickly after performances start and especially fairly soon after sundown. If you missed out, hopefully you can help make the scene next time...

Thanks to Mary and Gary for hosting this event in such an exceptionally special venue! Thanks to Stu for superb sound. Thanks to Marv for letting me use his rig. Thanks to all the food-preparers (especially the chili entrants) who brought a wonderful variety of fall samplings. Thanks to all those in costume who added atmospheric whimsy. Thanks to every performer who lent their talents to making the day and evening of music memorable. Thanks most of all to everyone for giving 3/5 of our group the opportunity to play, and thanks too for the kind words of support. It was great getting to know so many of the performers and guests. I'm just a thankful guy who's looking forward to seeing and hearing everyone again.

Mary & Gary: once again thank you for your generosity, for providing and hosting such a fine venue. I agree with what others have said about what a great time it was.

Also, I enjoyed the costumes I saw while I was there; they were outstanding!

Congratulations to the 'Dead Henklemens' and their accomplice 'Voodoo Doll'...for walking away with the prizes. Outstanding!

Definitely a good time. Can't wait for the next one...

Thanks for leading me to 83. I'm so glad we didn't go through town after my ominous warning from the card reader. It was a smooth ride home. Thank you Sue!

Were Jeff's pics uploaded yet? If not, I have a set.

I had a blast. What a talented, fun, and generous group of folks! The Barn is AMAZING. Many thanks to Mary, Gary and Stu for creating a super space for the creativity and fun to flourish. Great music, great people, great FUN. I'm grateful to everyone who attended for adding their good energy to this fantastic celebration! I'm still smiling.

Another incredible day on the farm. Kudos to Mary and Gary for their gracious hospitality and the many efforts expended to organize and host yesterday’s sensational event. The barn was setup beautifully, the ambiance was spot-on and the attention to detail was apparent and appreciated!

I thoroughly enjoyed all performances, the delicious food, the costumes and the awesome jam toward the end of the evening! But above all, just havin’ the opportunity to hang-out with friends in such a convivial atmosphere really made this a special day!

And to my friend and guitar player extraordinaire, “Mississippi Stu Miller”…the sound was phenomenal!

Wow! Super hosts Mary,Gary and Scootch (the pooch), did it again at the "Barn". What fun. Great music, great sound system, creative costumes, fun people and Chili and Corn muffins and other creations to keep our bellies warm and full. "You made my Day".

  • Mark H.

What a lot of fun. Thank you to Mary for being a kind host and offering up such a cool gathering point. The music is great but its the people that make this group special. Where else can one find Sound Man Stu--the only Mississipi resident that talks like Gary Cooper, Godfather Mike who simultaneously performs disappearing pick magic and killer songs (no picks are hurt during the performance), Wing thief Jay, Andy R's fretboard MAGIC, Marv's mix of Bass support and sarcasm (sometimes both are in key), and too many more to name.

And big hugs, kisses and zombie naughty naughty to Mrs Mark for making me look uglier than normal.

Ron C...you will be Friar Ron from this day forward!

What a blast, Mary & Gary are absolutely fantastic hosts and the owners of the best venue ever!!! No place I'd rather play. Thanks to Mary, Marv & Don for backing me up, and Stu for making us sound good. The costumes were great, Mark & Donna (prize winners) outdid themselves. and... Mary's chili was delicious!!!

I still haven't seen an email in my inbox with the address :-( My car is also not starting. I am trying to get a loaner for the weekend (hopefully my grandfather's truck). I live about an hour away from Stewartstown. If I can get the address and be on the road soon, I'll be good to go, but I would have to leave around 4 or 5 to come back home since I have two other parties to attend this evening. I hope I can make it.

    Hi everyone,
Just a reminder to watch out for the deer, the cooler weather has them on the move. Please comment if you are going to dress in costume because if it is only a handful, they may want to know that they would be the only ones and change their minds.
Pamela Jennings is also making chilli and we have Judges.
See you all here at the Mash

    October 25, 2013

My wife and I will be in full costume. I hope others are as well, I'd hate to win the grand prize by default.

Also Mary--I have not rec'd the address.

      1 · October 25, 2013

    • No one has said they're bringing chili for the competition so we guess Mary will have to win the prize with her June Carter chili with no competitors.

    • How many of you plan to signup and lead a slot in the open mic portion of the event program?

    • Are you bringing/wearing a costume?

    October 23, 2013

No fair, you stole my ideas completely, themed "Living Today's American Dream"...

Larry Williams is bringing chili, so far unopposed!

      October 24, 2013

I'll be rollin' in a little late sans my usual entourage' (no Bev, no Billy & no Allan). I'm plannin' on playin' anyway.

I'm sorry I can't make this one either. Bummer, especially as I would come costumed as a Freudian slip. ;-P
