Photo Walk at the Knik Glacier

I've never been out to the Knik Glacier, although I've seen it from Butte.  Does anyone know how to get close to the glacier via a road where there is parking for a meeting spot to start the walk?  If not, perhaps we attempt Portage Valley since the snow has disappeared.  Thoughts?

Too late Leonie, I think I got it from a coworker. I hate to do this, since I said I had room in my car and all, but I'm going to have to cancel. I worked all week with this thing, and I'm going to baby myself this weekend.

Finally heard back from Knik River Lodge. He is fine with us being out there on his property, but did warn it's VERY icy so plan to bring cleats. He also suggested that Hunter Creek would be a better location as there is more of a wide open area there for scenic shots of the river, plus better light than his place. Apparently there is a bridge over Hunter Creek at mile 9 on Knik River Road with a school bus turn around that would provide parking for multiple cars. I'm going to try there first based on that suggestion. I plan to be there around 4:30ish so if you come through and see a blue dodge ram still there I decided to stay put. :)

Hi all, I'm cancelling, really sorry! I arrived in town on Saturday and since then have been laid low with a horrid horrid cold. I feel quite rotten and would hate to pass this on to anyone else! I've been really looking forward to this sunset walk but not sure i am up to it at the moment :( Enjoy it, and I'm looking forward to seeing your photos!

Sounds like there's good interest in a sunset shoot, so let's meet at the end of Knik River Road at 5:15. That should give us time to scout around a bit and pick some spots before the color really starts. Sunset is 5:41, so we can probably mike it out to around 6. The weather is supposed to be partly cloudy and in the teens, so dress warm. I've never been to the end of the road, so I'm not sure how much parking is available, but we can probably pull off to one side of the road and form a line at worst. Excited to see what we find!

I was looking around on google maps and found this place:
It looks like they have a veiewpoint,
    http://www.knikriverlodge.com/location.htm
I am checking on what kind of access they have to the glacier, but they look like they are pretty close to it. Might have a nice place to get some hot soup afterwards also! :)

So far, what I've found is...Glenn Hwy to Old Glenn Hwy, R. on Knik River Rd, L. on Ed Rush, R. on Buck Shot. I don't know how close that gets us to the glacier, but I know who to ask. Will get back to you.

I have been reading that you can get there by airboat, boat, helicopter or ATV.

visitors can view the glacier by air via a flightseeing company, all-terrain vehicle tour, by jetboat[1] or by airboat charter. *Wikipeda

Bummer, I really want to go but just realized, after accepting, that I have to work this Saturday - when I don't usually. And I really want to do Knik.

This date isn't set in stone, I'm open to doing Sunday the 16th or even the following weekend. Just getting a sense of what will work for the majority. :)
