At My Kitchen Rocks we do Home-Cooked Dinners.
Amateur cooks prepare a menu, cook the meal at their home or someone elses home, & members pay:
$20-$25 to attend, partake of the meal and socialise with new people. Cost depends on cost of ingredients and number of courses.
All Dinners are BYO & hosted in Private Homes. Hosts often need help to set up & do dishes after, so any assistance is appreciated.
Profile photo: A "head and shoulders" photo is required to join this group. We like to know who is coming to dine with us.
QUESTIONS + ANSWERS ABOUT THE GROUP DINNERS:
Dinner Options: (Cost $20 - $25 per person Prepaid).
1). Do I have to pay $15 if I am the Host, Co-host, or Helper? NO. Remember though, that your menu must accomodate a meal for yourself and all the prepaid diners. Scale the Dinner to feed everyone without skimping as any extras have to be paid out of your own pocket!
2). Do I have to cook for 8,10,12 people? NO. You can have as many or as few guests as you want. Many of our members have small or shared accomodation. If you can only cook for 2-3 others, that is perfectly acceptable!
3). Do I need to cook a 3-course meal? NO. You post your menu. If people don't like it, they don't add their name to the guest list. You also don't need to provide tea and coffee unless it is on the menu. Guests are asked to BYO their own refreshment. If they want a cup of tea after the meal, they can bring their own teabag or coffee and make it themselves!! You are not running a restaurant and the guests cannot expect to be waited on hand and foot - especially when they only pay $15.00.
4). Do I have to live in Auckland to host? - NO. We need hosts, cooks, and helpers. You cook, we travel. Different venues, types of food and styles of cooking, adds to the variety.
5). Do I have to host a Dinner? - NO but you must participate in some way! Members who attend Dinners participate by paying and coming along. Those who cannot cook, can co-host a Dinner. (Co-hosting is you provide the venue for someone else to cook at your home). You can also be a helper! (a person who helps set up for the Dinner or washes up afterwards).
6). What about if I just want to Pay $15.00 and Eat? - You will be participating, but I expect that twice per year you become a HELPER! I actively discourage passive membership. We engage with one another through taking part. This group is as much about learning different peoples cultures and ways of doing things - as it is about eating and socialising! We have an International membership.
7). Do I have to Prepay? - YES. In the past we have had hosts "out of pocket" because members did a no-show on the night or tried to skythe out of paying by arriving late. There is less likelihood of this when people prepay.
8). I don't have Internet Banking, how do I pay? - Bank deposit. Hosts are asked to provide their bank details at least 7 days in advance of the Dinner. This allows time to make payment for the meal.
9). Does the meal have to be Gourmet or International? - NO. Most of the Dinners have been International only because our hosts cooked meals from their Country of Origin!
10). Can I get someone else to help me with the meal? - YES. Highly recommended. I encourage everyone to attend a Dinner before attempting to host one. This gives you an idea of how to plan the menu etc. It is NOT like Come Dine With Me... we like the host to spend as much time as possible with us. 90% of the Dinner hosts have attended as guests beforehand.
11). Can I host an Informal Lunch or Pot Luck instead? - YES. Highly recommended. Informal lunches, Potluck meals, Picnics, Dessert evenings, BBQs are good! Cost to attend = $5 - $10 per person.
12). Complaints? - All complaints to be emailed or directed to me. The most common complaint is people getting lost, not finding the venue. I am working on that. Complaints about other members are taken seriously. If 3 people complain about that member, they are removed. However, remember in New Zealand we have an English based culture. In the group we have an International membership. In other countries what we consider "rude" might not apply to people from Europe or Asia.
Note: Each month I remove inactive members. If your lifestyle is so hectic or life gets in the way on a regular basis – then this group is not for you!
We MEET UP regularly.
