I bought a season pass for the CT State Parks for $67. I visit parks often for the trails so this is a good option.

Hi Lori: We apologize that we couldn't connect. In the future, all activity notices will have contact information. We did post park information in the form of a link, which included the parking fee, but in the future we will make special note of it. There is some on-street parking, but it fills up fast. I drove over 40 miles to get there and got lost. I finally arrived at 11:00 and of course I missed everyone. Before I left I noticed that the name and cell phone number or the organizer was not listed, and sure enough I needed that information. So, in future, the person who is leading the hike should list your name and cell phone number for emergency contact. Had this information been given I could have notified you that I was lost. Also, it would have been good to know that there is a $9.00 charge just to park your car to do a hike. Had I known this I may not have gone to begin with. Also, if there is a parking fee, perhaps everyone could meet at a commuter parking lot, and then fill up a few cars and go to the State Park and everyone in the car split the $9.00 fee. Much more economical for everyone involved.

For those with conflicts, we're sorry we won't see you today. For anyone interested in hiking this weekend, our Young Members Committee (under 40 but anyone can participate) is hiking in Macedonia Brook State Park tomorrow in Kent. See ct-amc.org for further details. It is a 7-miler starting at 10:15 at the blue trail on Mountain Road. There may be a foray for ice cream afterwards.

hi edwina. i would do the pre hike with you. however, would you prefer to do it around 9:30 because it would take less than 45 minutes to go up and over and back to the parking lot? joe

    Hi!
I plan to "pre-hike" at 9, as I am interested in a workout. My plan is to hike the "Lavender" to "Blue" trail, which goes up the "face" of the Giant, and includes some rock scramble. I plan to do a pretty brisk pace. Anyone interested? This is all weather-dependent, of course!

How about we get an idea of where everyone lives so we can determine a good central location? I live in Ellington, so if you decide to meet in Farmington, that's far for me.
How about picking a nice place for an easy hike/walk in the Hartford area, like West Hartford Reservoir? We could take a short hike and then find picnic tables to sit and discuss plans.
I guess we should also get an idea of when people want to meet. Weeknight after work? Weekend morning or afternoon?? Looking forward to peoples comments on my suggestions.

I'm in Rocky Hill, centrally located, so am flexible.

Weekends work best for me, and I think would work for everyone since we are all coming from different directions. I like the idea of Sleeping Giant. Maybe we can do Saturday or Sunday morning -- 9am?!? I know I'm out of pocket 4th of July weekend but should be around other weekends. Looking forward to meeting everyone.

I suggested Sleeping Giant, in Hamden, earlier..it is a good, central location for those in most directions- probably an hour from the farthest points in the state. They have a great picnic area, good trails, abundant restaurants in the surrounding vicinity, if people would rather go out after a short hike. I would be willing to organize...

Hi Heidi: Your comments were not the reason for the notice. The Appalachian Mountain Club is the nation's oldest outdoor recreation-conservation-education organization, with 100,000 members in 12 chapters from Washington D.C. to Maine. We wanted to note up front how we operate. It may be different from other Meet Up groups that you have joined. AMC has very strict rules for activity leaders. The purpose is to ensure the safety of participants. We welcome suggestions for activities from all members. Please be advised that this effort is very new. We are still determining how to coordinate it with our usual methods of notifying people of activities - our website (ct-amc.org), the club's website (outdoors.org), the club's magazine (AMC Outdoors) and the chapter's short-notice email lists.

    I like both those ideas

I propose an afternoon hike, then cookout at either People's State Forest, in Bsrkhamstead, or Sleeping Giant, in Hamden. Both have good facilities, lots of grills, bathrooms, and wonderful hiking. I can lead at SG, trails are well-marked at People's. Everyone would be responsible for their own charcoal, utensils, food, and beverages, so it's not complicated. At peoples, you can also take a dip in the river afterwards!

    Hi Everyone,
Thank you for joining! MeetUp will automatically send you an invite based on your individual interests. Thank you for taking an interest in the AMC. The Appalachian Mountain Club - CT Chapter - is an volunteer led organization that may be viewed on the web sites indicated on the description. The organizers can post activities and events, which we are in the process of developing. As well as developing this new meet up page. Thank you for your understanding as we organize this web site. I will be leading a hike June 22nd at Bear Mountain and am currently editing the description and submitting for approval with AMC.

    Sincerely,
    Amy
