Hello:
I am a long-time Objectivist who recently started an Objectivist community group here: the Ayn Rand Society of St. Louis.

As a fledgling organization, we are delighted to have the privilege of sponsoring an upcoming talk by Andy Bernstein, on the 1st weekend in March.

I know it's kind of a trek over here from KC, but in case there might be some of your members who would wish to travel to St. Louis that weekend, I wanted to make you aware of this event.

If you think anybody there would be interested, please Fwd. this info & let them know they are more than welcome to join us.

The talk is free & open to the public.

We're also having a small, informal dinner in Andy's honor on the Sat. night before (or possibly a lunch, at noon, just before the talk). This will not be open to the public, but any member of an Objectivist organization or student group traveling in for the talk will also be welcome to this "separate checks" affair.

Knowing Andy, it's guaranteed that the talk will be great (it's a reprise of his talk on "Villainy" that he gave at last November's NYOS Conference) & we anticipate that the entire event will be lots of fun.

We'd love to have anyone from your group come join us!

If you or anyone else has questions or queries, please email or call me anytime. Thanks a lot!

Best regards,

Dan Sullivan

PS: As an "FYI" ... Andy will also be giving a Campus Lecture at Central Mo State in Warrensburg on Tuesday, March 6.

Obviously, that's a lot closer to you guys than St. Louis is! ...

The Ayn Rand Society of St. Louis

is pleased to announce an upcoming talk by Objectivist author & teacher:

Andrew Bernstein, PhD

Professor of Philosophy at the State University of New York at Purchase

Author of: The Capitalist Manifesto, Objectivism in One Lesson, Capitalism Unbound, Capitalist Solutions, and other important works,

Contributor to: Essays on Ayn Rand's Atlas Shrugged, The Objective Standard, and many other publications,

Frequent speaker on college campuses and at Objectivist Conferences.

When: Sunday, March 4th at 2:00 PM

Where: The Lodge of Des Peres http://www.desperesmo...

1050 Des Peres Rd., Des Peres, MO 63131

in the Dogwood & Maple Rooms (just off the front lobby)

This talk is free & open to the public.

Voluntary contributions (of any amount) to help defray expenses will be accepted.

Contributors of $30 or more will receive, as a free gift, a personally signed hardcover copy of Dr. Bernstein's most recent book:

Capitalist Solutions: A Philosophy of American Moral Dilemmas

Title of the Talk: "Villainy: An Analysis of the Nature of Evil"

Capsule: Criminals victimize honest men. Religion coerces rational men to surrender their minds to faith. Collectivism enslaves an individual to the state. These are three primary forms that evil takes. What is the moral theory that makes possible the rise and continued existence of evil? What is the underlying philosophic theory that, if held by men, makes evil inevitable? Is one of these three forms of evil more virulent than the other two – and, if so, why? What must rational men do to protect themselves against evil in any of its hideous iterations? Finally, what must good men do to protect an optimistic, value-laden benevolent universe premise in the face of evil's ubiquity and destructive power in the modern world?

After the talk, Dr. Bernstein will conduct an extended question & answer period, covering topics from the day's talk, as well as any questions pertaining to:

Ayn Rand or her philosophy, Objectivism

Any of her books, including: Atlas Shrugged, The Fountainhead, We The Living, Anthem, or her non-fiction books

Capitalism versus Socialism or the Mixed Economy, or any other pertinent topic.

Time will also be allotted after the talk for him to sign books, talk individually with attendees, etc.

Please join us for this FUN and INFORMATIVE event!!
