There are many different approaches to creating an AR-assisted experience. During this meeting our focus will be on the design and execution of simple projects using the free resources available to anyone. With some elementary software skills a person can create a marker-based AR application using the Open Source AR Toolkit. Those who are interested in mobile AR will learn the basics of using the Layar Content management system for geo-location-based mobile AR.
Format: There will be three in depth presentations. First, Andreas Simon will provide a framework for you to get started with AR using the Open Source AR Toolkit. Florian Müller will show how to use the Layar developer platform and demonstrate it using some applications created in a course he led at UniBasel. Jan Torpus will be speaking about how to approach the design of a new Augmented Reality project (how to generate the content, interactivity) regardless of the platform. After this session people who share an interest can split up into smaller groups to work on sample projects together.
Session leaders: Andreas Simon, Jan Torpus and Florian Müller (more information on them to be provided)
To prepare: you can come to listen, watch and learn, however, if you would like to use this meetup to get your hands dirty building your own test application, we encourage that prior to the meeting you:
(1) register with Layar for a developer key, here. please allow two business days for the request to be processed.
(2) download the Wikitude API Package here.
(3) download the AR Toolkit here or here.
