AR Gaming - Casual & Platform Games (Downtown location)

Hello ARLAers!

We're very excited to to be getting the community back together for this informal event, and to have daqri hosting ARLA tonight. When you're 100% sure you're attending, please send an email to [masked] with your first and last name, and the names of your +1s, so that I can have you added to the security list for Los Angeles Center Studios. They take security seriously here and you won't be able to get on the lot if I don't have your full name beforehand, so please don't forget to do this!

Getting Here

If you're using GPS to navigate here, key in 450 S Bixel St, Los Angeles, CA instead of the 5th Street address. This will get you to the right spot. We ask that you find street parking on Bixel St or the surrounding neighborhood (in the evening there should be plenty), and then walk onto the Studio lot from the Bixel entrance. Please note!! You WILL need to stop at the security booth and give your name to the folks at the entrance. Then just follow the posted ARLA signs to Suite F-260.

The Format for Tonight

We have some cool demos lined up for this meetup, and to spice it up, we're also experimenting with a bit of an unconference style. Since our theme this month is AR Gaming, we'll have a sign-up sheet at the front where you can pick up a 5 minute slot to talk about -- and demonstrate! -- YOUR favorite AR game. Should be fun!

Pizza, Of Course

To make the evening more enjoyable, we'll be providing pizza and snacks. Also, if you're really good at baking cookies, we would NOT say no to you bringing some. ;)

Cheers and looking forward to seeing everyone tomorrow at 7pm SHARP!

DEMO 1 - THE BOOK OF SPELLS:

Wonderbook: Book of Spells takes augmented reality to spectacular new
places with an intuitive and easy to use book.  J.K. Rowling’s Book of
Spells is the fictional instruction book of Hogwarts school,
highlighted within the Harry Potter stories.  Book of Spells is the
first title for Wonderbook, the latest addition to the PlayStation
experience.

We'll be giving away five (5) Book of Spells game bundles to attendees, which comes with the game, the Wonderbook, a Move controller, and a PS Eye camera, worth $80 each.  More can be found out here: PS3 Book of Spells and Bundle Info.

It was really great being there Wednesday night! I'm really excited about all the possibilities. I forgot to mention that Daniel's art was all done on the ipad. Also, thinking of doing a kickstarter for the AR clothing line- Anyone interested in collaborating on this?

Maybe a complete ARLA clothing line would be in order. Multiple designers, One app.

Thank you everyone so much for coming, it's really wonderful to get the community together and spend time. For anyone looking for a basic, foundational understanding of augmented reality and how daqri views its progress in the next few years, I highly recommend reading this: http://j.mp/Tn7h7S. I'd also love to hear all of your own thoughts on this burgeoning medium -- because we're literally creating the future together. Cheers and looking forward to next month!

Gaia, I just read your blog on the future of AR as a medium. I am delighted. I especially like imagining the natural history applications you describe towards the bottom. I'd love to work on apps like this!

Thank you so much to Daqri and Chris for such a great meet up last night. What a fabulous group of people. Sorry we had "technical difficulties" with the dome. If we do the meetup again at LACS we'll be happy to make sure it's working and give you all a nice demo.
