Augmented Reality Bootcamp

Jumpstart Your Augmented Reality Knowledge & Immediately Apply What You've Learned

Augmented reality offers one of the most exciting development opportunities for developers, designers and app makers. From marketing to games to entertainment, augmented reality is quickly becoming a must-have mobile category. To support the growth of the augmented reality ecosystem, DAQRI is hosting a free 2-day Augmented Reality Bootcamp at the DAQRI offices, located at Los Angeles Center Studios, June 26 and 27. The event’s main objectives are building awareness and building expertise in the community.

Event sponsors include UNITY Technologies and Qualcomm® Vuforia™ so you will get a chance to learn from the best in the industry.

Augmented Reality Bootcamp + Ideastorm

The Bootcamp will consist of a full day of professional training with AR experts from the partner organizations as well as a well-known mentor guest. On Day 2, designers, developers, mareketers and creatives will have the chance to immediately apply what they’ve learned in an Ideastorm setting. Prizes will be awarded for the best AR app concepts created during the Ideastorm.

FAQ:

Do I have to come with a team?

You absolutely can, but it's not necessary. You'll meet like-minded augmented reality enthusiasts with different skillsets at the event.

Do I have to build an app to win a prize?

It's unrealistic to expect to be able to build a complete augmented reality application in a couple of days. So to win a prize, you will just need to present a detailed concept based on the foundation of technical and UX knowledge you've gained during the event. Building a functional prototype – of at least the central component of your concept – and presenting it in a unique way will get extra points.

Can I just attend the agency mixer?

Yes. If you would like to just participate in the mixer, sign up using the ticket "Free Registration for ONLY Agency Mixer Thurs 6/27."

I've been excited about augmented reality for a long time so I was hoping it wouldn't be mainly buzz. I loved the tutorials and experts. This is my kind of event. Unfortunately I had to miss turning a lamp on with my brain. I'm going to be stuck here turning lamps on with my fingers for the foreseeable future, but I picked up some amazing skills in Unity and Vuforia. Hope to see you all again soon. Cheers!

This was a a fantastic event, well organized overflowing with content. I only wish that there had been more time to dig into the technology itself. I think I personally could have benefitted from a more "helloworld" style introduction to vuforia and unity in a lab type setting (i.e the second part of the event with tables for laptops).

Thank you so much to Gaia, Brian, Mark and all the other folks who organized this great event. I am grateful for the chance to learn Unity, and to show a group of 10th-graders the amazing possibilities of AR.
LA's AR community is full of creative, interesting people, so I'm delighted to be a part of it.

I was wondering the same thing, here's some information that was sent via Eventbrite, maybe before you registered:

      DIRECTIONS & PARKING

Free event parking is available in Los Angeles Center Studio Lots 2 & 3. Enter at the corner of 5th Street and Bixel Street, and look for signs indicating where to park.

If you’re using a GPS system, you can input this address to find the parking lot:

      W 5th St & S Bixel St, Los Angeles, CA 90017

Once you’ve parked, follow the directional signs down 5th Street to the Beaudry St entrance to Los Angeles Center Studios. The address for this entrance is:

451 S. Beaudry St, Los Angeles, CA 90017

Perfect! Thanks a lot for this information. Justin and for the software info below as well!

What should we bring to Day One? (Laptop? Smartphone? Tablet? Just a notepad if we're taking notes the old-fashioned way? :D) How hands-on should we expect to get (I understand that Day Two would be more hands-on than Day One, but I'm curious). Also, what version of Unity will we be using and should we have that pre-installed on our machines beforehand? (I'm running both Unity 3 and Unity 4 seperately, but, again, just curious). Thanks! So looking forward to the next two days.
