Incorporating the use of Augmented Reality (AR) technology, Amir Baradaran will recreate the experience of the tea ceremony - a centuries - old cultural tradition that ranged from lavish social affairs to intimate hearthside family gatherings - giving participants an opportunity to reflect upon the advantages and deficits of the promises of technology in cultivating social interaction. Here, the samovar, central to the preparation of tea and an ornamental centerpiece itself, serves as a symbol of popular social tradition, a nostalgic expression of pre-Information Age interaction and leisure. Building on the artist's ongoing desire to blur the boundaries of body art and technology, this AR installation brings together movement, chanted Persian poetry, 3 -Dgraphic overlay, full body detection and fluid algorithms with public participation. This installation is part of the artist's larger body of work called FutARism.
