2012. USA. Directed by Matt McCormick. 70 min.
Playing t MoMA in theater 3 (The Celeste Bartos Theater), mezzanine, The Lewis B. and Dorothy Cullman Education and Research Building

Portland filmmaker Matt McCormick has a video installation up right now at the Elizabeth Leach Gallery called "The Great Northwest." McCormick filmed it last year as he criss-crossed Washington, Idaho, Montana and Oregon.

MoMA brings to us the full documentary.

Mesmerizing...
Romantic...
Fascinating...
Poetic...
A true story.

This experimental documentary centers around a re-creation of a 3,200-mile road trip made in 1958 by four adventurous Seattle women who documented their journey in an elaborate scrapbook of photos, postcards, brochures, beer labels and receipts.

Fifty years later, Portland artist and filmmaker Matt McCormick found that scrapbook, and set out to follow their route as precisely and searching out every stop the women had documented.

Simultaneously observational and voyeuristic, The Great Northwest is a lyrical time capsule that explores how the landscape and roadside culture of the Pacific Northwest has changed over the past half century.

Movie tickets at Moma are $12.00, however...be among the first 5 people to arrive at MoMA and pay only $5.00 for your ticket, as Andreya's guest.

After the movie...

your choice of a huge, fattening,
and irresistibly delicious Starbucks intake of sugar, or...  an extremely healthy and yet deliciously
Jumba juice

and ... why not? ...

...if it is a warm day,
even a brisk walk to Central Park...

ANDREYA'S ASSISTANT

I am green and terribly cute!  Just look for me in Andreya's hands.

Andreya and I will be waiting inside inside the education center lobby, where you can purchase your ticket. Note that the entrance to the MoMA education center is on 54th Street

We will leave the lobby and go the theater at precisely 3:45pm. The film starts at 4:00pm.

I think I loved the director's honesty, unpretentiousness and great sense of humor more than the film itself. And...of course...I went to the wrong side of MoMA, but eventually I found the theater...and Andreya.

The film was very enjoyable as was the discussion with the creator of the film. Nobody showed up from this group though, except the organizer, perhaps due to the bad weather. So it really wasn't a "meet-up". Makes me re-think the whole concept.
