*Science Cafe

*Science Cafe is a "3rd Party" event operated by UAMS and KUAR-FM98 radio, and as such is not hosted by, nor an official event of the Arkansas Society of Freethinkers. We are an official sponsor of Science Cafe and recommend and promote this event as a service to our members.

Each month a speaker from the Science Café panel of scientists/experts provides topical insight as a guest on the KUAR-FM89 "Science Café Little Rock" talk show hosted by Dorothy Graves, Ph.D. at (6:05-6:30 p.m.) just prior to the live event at 7 p.m.

Check out the Science Café website for this months topic, watch Science Café's YouTube Channel, read Science Café organizer Linda Williams's Science Whisperer blog, follow her on Twitter, and "like" Science Café on Facebook

The first science cafés (Café Scientifique) were started in Europe in the early 1990’s to offer a relaxed public forum for the exchange of ideas (over coffee, beer, and food) in a friendly setting where anyone could come tosharpen their knowledge of the modern sciences. It was also a place where people could ask questions about the relevance, risk, and ethical concerns relating to a topic.

Today, there are science cafés around the world. Cafés, pubs and restaurants serve as venues for scientists and other experts to give short public presentations on specific topics followed by Q&A and open discussion.

Each Science Café event includes a moderator who introduces 2-3 panelists addressing a monthly topic as it relates to his/her experience and expertise. After each speakers’ brief (10-15 minute) talk, the audience asks questions and discusses the topic. The moderator fills in the gaps and facilitates questions. The Science Café provides an opportunity for an interesting night out, a chance to meet new people, learn new things, and discuss current scientific research/applications in plain English.

Science Café in Little Rock is hosted by Vieux Carre/The Afterthought the 4th Tuesday of every month.  Join your Freethinking friends for a fun and interesting evening! Get there early as seating is limited.
