Dear ASAN-PDX,
Take action against Autism Speaks:
Autism Speaks is holding a 2009 "Walk Now for Autism" fundraiser in Portland this coming weekend on:
SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 26TH
Where is ASAN-PDX meeting? SW SALMON and SW 9TH in front of the SOUTHPARK SEAFOOD GRILL & WINE BAR
What time? 10 AM to 12 PM
Here is a link for further information (plus it has a map):
I will be passing out fliers at this walk in order to educate goers about the hurtful message behind Autism Speaks.
Please respond to this message if you would like to meet up with me and hand out fliers. Also, take into consideration that ASAN's stance is NOT pro-Autism Speaks. Why? Autism Speaks engages in several displays of unethical fundraising strategies, often relying upon fear and pity-mongering to raise funds. ASAN thinks along the lines of "Autism Speaks Does Not Speak For Me."
Speaking of hurtful messages, have you seen the latest video by Autism Speaks? Be forewarned that there is profound anti-autism speech contained in this video, which is horrific, and may be disturbing or emotionally *TRIGGERING* so please be careful (scroll down to get right to the video). A direct quote from the Autism Speaks video:
I am autism. I have no interest in right or wrong. I will plot to rob you of your children and your dreams….And if you’re happily married, I will make sure that your marriage fails. Your money will fall into my hands, and I will bankrupt you for my own self-gain,” says the “I am Autism” video, released yesterday and created by Academy Award-nominated director Alfonso Cuarón and Grammy-nominated songwriter/producer Billy Mann.

If you are interested in joining me this Saturday, then please send me an email response or call me at [masked] cell.
If you need info on where this is or anything related to the actual walk, then please refer to the first link provided. All I need to know is if you are interested in participating. Thank you!
I look forward to seeing everyone at our upcoming October meeting.
Best wishes,
