Introduction

My name is Lisa and I just moved here from Wauwatosa, WI (near Milwaukee). I am hearing, but minored in ASL in college. I graduated this past May and would like to get to know people in the area and keep up with my ASL.

How long have you been signing?

I started teaching myself when I was in elementary school, but I didn't start taking classes until 2008.

What made you interested in sign language?

When I was in 1st or 2nd grade I had several ear surgeries in a row and I thought I was going to become deaf so I wanted to start to learn, just in case. When I didn't become deaf I continued to want to learn the language because of its beauty and unique characteristics.

Lisa, welcome to the group. I'm guessing you're a Cheesehead/Packer fan? Welcome, as well, to the area. I love teaching fifth grade. Though I actually teach 6th and 8th now at a middle. I teach 6th grade Social Studies and 8th grade Spanish. Looking forward to meeting you.
