ASTD Alaska Meeting: Web Presence and Your Digital Footprints

Join Us Each Month!

When you set up your iCal/Outlook schedule, put a repeater on the second Wednesday of each month for ASTD Alaska, 11:30 - 1:15!

About the Speakers

Web Presence and You Digital Footprints - human-computer interaction and social media use - is Skp’s latest passion.

What happens when someone Googles your name? What could an employer, a colleague, a student, or a friend learn about you that might surprise you? This presentation and discussion will focus on understanding social media and your increasingly important digital footprint. We'll cover some tools and strategies for proactively managing your web presence in the current and emerging context of ubiquitous sharing and transparent information.

Skip’s 33+ years in Alaska have been spent as a K-12 teacher (including regular education, special education, and Gifted/Talented education), a district technology specialist, and a member of the UAF School of Education faculty where he currently concentrates on instructional technology and professional development. He served in various positions on the board of the Alaska Society for Technology in Education (ASTE), on Apple's National Education Advisory Board, and on several state commissions and committees, including co-chairing the Technology Standards Committee and the development committee for the Alaska Learning Network. His areas of professional interest include social media, mobile technology, and the role of technology and pedagogy in transforming education. Personal interests include music (as a former professional musician), hiking, skiing, and travel.

You can learn much more about Skip

This was a great presentation and topic. Skip brought up a lot of great points related to our digital footprint and I liked how he used Google+ Hangout to present his information. We were also able see Skip the whole time in another window, which added a lot to the experience. I would really like to see another presentation by Skip in the future.

Great presentation. It made me realize how much things have changed over the years. When I first started using the internet it was all about not revealing your true identity to anyone. Now your personal information is out there without you proactively putting there. To balance thing out a person should intentionally add things to their web presence.

Today's topic was outstanding. Skip was well prepared, and gave a great presentation. He really gave me a lot to think about when it comes to my web presence and digital footprint.
