All that hard work is about to pay off! We are in the process of tapering our long runs, but tour weekday runs are close to the same this week. Nice run Saturday. We got a taste of hot weather. Hopefully it will cool down for the race.
Here is our schedule this week:
Monday - off
Tuesday - 4 medium pace - I'll be at Snails Pace if you want to run together.
Wednesday - 35 minutes foundation/strength training
Thursday - 5 medium at Snails Pace 6 PM
Friday - off
Saturday - 8 - easy pace - at Yorba Regional Park - we'll keep it flat.
Sunday - 3 easy pace
A couple words about tapering for the race. It is as important to your training plan as the build up of long runs. Long and intense runs break down your muscle tissue. Tapering allows them to rebuild so you are strong and have fresh legs for the marathon. This has always been my most difficult time training for a marathon. It is very easy to think you are losing fitness and very tempting to get one more long/intense run in before race day. Resist the temptation, have faith in your training. You have taken almost 20 weeks to build up for the race and won't lose that fitness by going easy the last couple weeks before race day. I am attaching a reminder and checklist developed by Joy and Michelle. This should help you organize yourself before and after the race.
Also - keep your social calendar clear on Friday evening, March 15. I just got the OK from my wife Michele, to have a pre-race pasta dinner at our house. I'll email the details later this week.
See you this week!
