CONGRATS ON TAKING THE FIRST STEP IN ACHIEVING YOUR HALF MARATHON GOAL!
On behalf of Coach Karen, Coach Jeff, and myself, welcome to our 201 O.C. Half program!
Some important points :
1. We will do our best to make it fun! We will answer your questions, find the answers for you, or direct you where to find them. We may even give you answers to questions you haven't even asked :)
2. This is a YOGOWYPI "yogowhippee" situation. You Only Get Out What You Put In!
3. You have some responsibilities.
Use Meetup: Post a picture of yourself that will allow us to recognize you; check the site by Sunday nights to get the info for the upcoming week; communicate with me via the site, to RSVP for our group runs and to let me know if you will be late (but don't be late!).
Follow the training schedule.
Let us know if you get a running injury, and then treat it!
Fuel and hydrate before running, and during long runs. Always bring water.
Have proper attire (specific-for-you shoes, technical clothing, weather specific items such as sunscreen, gloves, hat, sunglasses, rain gear, etc.).
ASK ME ABOUT: rock, paper, scissors, cycle.....
We look forward to our first day! Bring a positive attitude and it will be great!
You can't put a limit on anything, the more you dream, the farther you get.
Welcome to the beginning of your OC Half Marathon journey. A Snail's Pace Running Academy looks forward to not only getting you to the finish line of your event but to providing you with the tools to help you achieve your running and fitness goals.
We will be providing you with an evidence based, structured training program. By applying the principles and the training requirements we provide, you will greatly reduce the risk of injury.
At today's session, you will receive a brief orientation of approximately 10 minutes. This will include the introduction to our warm up process that is also a strength conditioning workout. For a preview of the warm up, visit the Files section on this meetup site. Files section is under the heading "More". The handout used for our warm up is Functional Warm-up.
After a 1 mile warm-up you will participate in a timed 2 mile run. The goal of this timed run is not to run fast or hard, it is just a means for us to place you in a pace group and determine an appropriate interval for your training. Please dress prepared to run.
After our 3 mile run, we will complete a group Foundation Training workout before the cool down and post run stretching. You will find your FOUNDATION WORKOUT POST RUN final in the Files section as well.
*Be sure to bring water for your workout this morning!
To enroll online for the Academy Course go directly to the OC Half Marathon race website and register for your race entry and RA training together.

Meet Your Coach:
My name is Stephanie Alire and I am the RA201 OC Half Marathon coach! I also work part time in a Special Education program at the high school level. After running in a 5k and a half marathon, I joined ASP in 2006 to train for the Orange County Marathon. It was a great experience to train with a group and priceless on race day to see friendly faces along the route. I never played sports or exercised in my youth. I began jogging, mountain biking, and became an indoor cycling instructor in my early thirties and found I love the feeling of satisfaction and accomplishment after a great workout. I’ve learned to appreciate the mental clarity and stress relief from a slow run and good stretch routine. I've continued to race over the years and always made a point to stop by the ASP tent for a cup of good cheer. I love being on the coaching end now! My philosophy is: run for pleasure, purpose, or physicality, but only compete against yourself.
