I have signed up for a program (called Sustainable Selections) that allows me to take expired meat from a national retail grocery chain on a weekly basis. I pay a monthly fee and basically act as their removal service (in place of the renderers that used to take it). It is packaged but all mixed together, so you will have to be prepared to dig through the barrels to get what you want. I will have everything from sirloin to hot dogs and lunch meat - everything you would find at a grocery store.
It is never more than a few days past expiration; however, please note:
THIS MEAT IS FOR ANIMAL CONSUMPTION ONLY!!
There are a few things I require of everyone that would like to get meat for their pets from me:
A) you will have to sign a liability waiver (since I am giving you expired meat);
B) you need to bring your own bags, coolers, boxes, etc. to bag and haul off your meat. I won't have anything for you;
C) you need to RSVP on this site starting on the Sunday before the Saturday you want to pick up to get on the list for that pickup (RSVP STARTS AT NOON); and
D) On occasion, I may require everyone to also take a bag of the processed stuff that no one wants in order to help me avoid the cost of an additional trash service (namely, a dumpster at my houseYikes!). Right now, I have people that have pigs and chickens that take all of it, but there are some weeks that I still have stuff left to throw out.
I cannot legally charge for the meat; however, donations are welcome and appreciated, as this venture does cost me money on a monthly basis.
If all of this sounds agreeable to you, feel free to join us and get some free meat for your pups!
The liability waiver can be found in the files section, and information about the program for those who would like to become a vendor for their own store will be in the files section shortly.
Welcome in advance, and I look forward to meeting all of you!
