Re: [Atheists-United-Family-Group] Hello!

Los Angeles is huge and spread out.
Meetups rarely are successful here.
People do want to get out and meet people, but when the time comes, they don't go.
I'm 63 and was born here.  It's never really been a problem being atheist here.
I just moved in a bad neighborhood and everyone is really religious and a church on every corner, sometimes more than one per corner.
I don't have a problem with it.
Once in awhile someone looks at me like I just dropped over from hell LOL
It's their problem, not mine.
I don't have any family except a grown son who is a musician and tours nearly the entire year, so that leaves me pretty much isolated.
I would love to friends that I have something in common with, but the idea of being a group makes it something organized, and that means probably bylaws, guideline, or whatever.
I don't want to do anything like that.

People already talk about us as if we are an organized group, and we are not.
If you wanted to go places in and around Hollywood or L.A. just to have fun, the things to do are endless here.

Are you the people who have get togethers on Hollywood Blvd?
I think I get info cards in the mail, but I never go... I want to go, but I never do.

I am willing to participate in activities and get togethers but if there is going to be a lot of heavy talk about having and not having faith, I'm not interested.
I think that discussing where we came from and where we go when we die is not important in this short life we have.

It's not logical that there is anything supernatural going on so I've never even thought about it except when trying to get panderers of their lard away from me.

There is never a conclusion to this type of discussion.

That's about it for me, happy to meet you and any others.

Deborah

Subject: [Atheists-United-Family-Group] Hello!

Hi everyone!

I wanted to take a moment to introduce myself.

My name is Rachel DeWald. I am a mother of a two year old girl, Eisley. After having our daughter my husband and I realized we were lacking a community to raise her in. I want a place for her to grow and learn around open, free-thinking families. I am committed to providing her with an environment where she can feel comfortable to express herself and to ask questions without being told "because that's just how it is".

I am excited to get involved with Atheist United Family Group. As the newest assistant organizer, I promise to get as many activities in as many cities around LA for our families to meet.

I understand that Los Angeles is a large place, so I want to ask all of you to help me out with one thing:

Email me back and tell me a little about you. If nothing else, let me know what city your family lives in and an activity or place you like to go in your area.

I'd love to explore more of the greater Los Angeles and to give everyone a chance to attend meetups no matter what area you are in.

Let's all work together to build a community for ourselves and our children.
Thank you to Brian and Bobbie for this opportunity!

I look forward to meeting you all. :)
-Rachel
