Welcome back! I hope everyone had an enjoyable holiday break. We have lots of great stuff planned for the year already - but as always - message us if you have any special requests or would like the opportunity to present something to the group.
Kicking things off for 2014 we have technical sessions (including live demos) with Katie Miller from Red Hat and Rob Risetto from DBInsight.
Please arrive for a 6:00pm start. (To change things up this month we are hosting the event on a Tuesday evening).
Katie Miller, OpenShift Developer Advocate @ Red Hat
Using OpenShift to Build Auto-Scaling Apps on AWS
Including live demos
Katie will give an overview of OpenShift, Red Hat's open source PaaS, demonstrate how to deploy a scalable app and show you what happens when the load ramps up. Katie will also explain how to deploy your very own cloud application platform with the OpenShift Origin project and EC2. There will be OpenShift goodies to give away for those who ask good questions, so come prepared to interact.
Rob Risetto, Technical Director @ DBInsight
SQL Server 2014 Performance Features on AWS
SQL Server 2014 is coming and there are a number of new features that will significantly enhance the performance of database systems that run on AWS EC2 instances. In this session Rob will explore In Memory OLTP and Buffer Pool Extension features, and demonstrate the performance impact of these features on AWS EC2 instances. The session will also highlight how these new features can reduce the EC2 instance size (resources) you choose for new database implementations.
Free beers and pizza afterwards as always!
