Scaling on AWS for the First 10 Million Users

AWS Solutions Architect Chris Munns talks about the challenges of scaling a technical infrastructure. From knowing where to start, and what direction to take given an unknown future, its often hard to get it right the first time, or even the second time. Cloud computing gives you a number of advantages in being able to scale on demand, and easily replace whole parts of your infrastructure, and much more. But still, where do you start? Come to this talk to understand some of the common patterns, and recommended areas of focus you can expect to work through while scaling an infrastructure to handle millions of users. From leveraging highly scalable AWS services, to architecting best patterns, there are a number of smart choices you can make early on to help you overcome some typical infrastructure issues. These patterns and practices will get you there.

Chris Munns works with customers of all sizes to help them architect solutions being deployed in the AWS cloud across a broad range of technical scenarios.  Prior to joining AWS, Chris spent a number of years gaining cloud operations and architecture experience, including holding senior operations engineering posts at Etsy and Meetup.  Chris holds a Bachelor of Science in Applied Networking and System Administration from the Rochester Institute of Technology.

Unfortunately I am unable to make it. I have watched the YouTube from re:Invent 2013 but being with others and getting different idea would have been fun.

We won't be set up to broadcast this one but Chris has given this talk before - there's a good version of it on YouTube if anyone's interested.

    Hey Everyone,
Thanks for the great interest in our inaugural event. Demand has been very high for this talk.

***For security purposes, you must use your full real name when RSVPing so that we can provide an accurate list to building security. If you've RSVPed with just your first name or an alias, you'll need to switch that to your real name in order to be admitted. ***

Hey Peter and Orlando, See Donn's message above. Thanks!

Hey everyone, sorry to say but we had to close registration for this event due to overwhelming popularity. If you did not get moved up from the wait list to the RSVP list, I'm sorry but we will not be able to accommodate you. Please do not try to attend if you are not on the RSVP list - we are already overbooked. Sorry about that but we'll be looking for an even bigger venue for our February meeting!

Once again, for those of you who have only your first name in our RSVP list, we'll need you full name in order to get you through building security.

    Thanks!

    Donn

I too am super-excited to see the great response to this event! I'm opening up a few more RSVP slots but we're going to be at capacity very quickly. If you think you will not be able to make it, please be sure to un-RSVP so that others may attend.

    Thanks,

    Donn
