Re: [AWS-Wine-Group-II] Another twist to Banned In Boston at Wine Expo

Thoughts on this looking back at thirty five years of reflection:

There will always be struggles between forces in the distribution channels who want to maintain their position and new methods of distribution which DTC embodies. I rail with my vendors against the trend to sell Amazon, for example.

The reality here though is that DTC in Massachusetts is illegal because wine is alcohol and alcohol is a regulated substance. So until the legislature has the greater political will to free wine from strictures of sale due to alcohol content, we can not legally receive wine from wineries directly. At the end of this discussion, that's the only channel that matters to me. My ability to contact xyz winery and buy and receive their limited production wine. By ups, fedex, USPS...

So boycotting the wine expo doesn't seem to achieve that objective. I don't go for a more simple reason: it gets crazy! And I get Fubar! Last time I went, things got too fuzzy and hazy while I was still in the parking lot at the Seaport!!

So I've learned a lesson of abstinence coupled with a desire for a more gracious experience. Less pushing and shoving to suckle at the teets of Bacchus...

I certainly don't need DTC for access to consumption of middling wine products being promoted by wine brokers who market under various club or alternative labeling guises.

There is plenty of pricing power now in competition between MA wholesalers and wineries for consumer dollars. Shop around and buy by the case... It's often competitive to California retail pricing.

If you are a relative novitiate to find wine drinking, perhaps jostling for tastes of this or that will make for a fun Saturday or Sunday! You might meet the uninhibited man or woman of your dreams in the process!

So attend, or not, but what's going on here with show management doesn't move the legislative needle, and that's what needs to happen first.

This makes me want to boycott the Boston Wine Expo too.  This goes entirely against what this country stands for.

I love wine, but love free enterprise and free market concepts more. And, I don't like being regulated. Therefore, I am boycotting the Boston event, instead continuing to learn through AWS and traveling to more consumer friendly events ant to vineyards.
