Celebrate 2014 with learning about and tasting sparkling wines!
We'll be exploring sparkling wines from 6 different countries: France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Australia, and the US. Bubbles galore: there will be a total of 10 different sparkling wines to sample, including two vintage Champagnes with one of them being the prestigious Dom Pérignon.
The wine education will cover the history and topography of the Champagne region, various methods used to make sparkling wine, the terminology used to indicate wine sweetness levels, and the distinctive styles of sparkling wine.
There are several schools of thought on stemware. Feel free to bring two Champagne flutes (tall, narrow bowl), two Champagne coupes (shallow, broad-bowled), or two tulip wine glass (rim of the glass is narrower than the midpoint). Champagne coupes seem to be in vogue now.
Cost per person, depending on attendance, will be $19 per person. Please bring a few extra $1 bills just in case we have less than 19 attendees. Also, please bring an appetizer to share. Sparkling wines are remarkably flexible with food. The options for appetizers are endless, here are a few ideas: brie, gouda, buttered popcorn, shrimp/shellfish, salami, Prosciutto, veggies, smoked salmon, stuffed mushrooms, mustard-Mascarpone bruschetta, fruit-based desserts, shortbread cookies, olives, almonds, and potato chips.
