After spending an extended time with old world wines, this month, we’ll explore the wines of the Pacific Northwest- specifically, Oregon and Washington. Oregon shares its location on the 45th parallel with Burgundy, and produces great “Burgundian”-styled Pinot Noirs. Washington is the USA’s answer to Bordeaux, and produces world-class quality Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and other varieties. The wine education will include the history, geography, viticulture, and terroir of the region. We will have 8 premium wines for you to sample, and will be comparing 2 Pinot Noirs, 2 Syrahs, 2 Merlots, and 2 Bordeaux Blends.
Cost per person, depending on attendance, will be $20 per person. Please bring a few extra $1 bills just in case we have less than 18 attendees. Also, please bring an appetizer to share. Suggested pairings include: cured or smoked meats, tuna, game meats, steak, hamburger, soft or hard goat cheese, medium and hard cow and sheep cheese, chicken livers, olive tapenade, mushrooms, bruschetta, crostini, pâté, bread, chocolate, and berries.
As a reminder, we are trying to concentrate on smelling wine, not one another. So please no perfume, cologne, body spray, aromatic hair gel or other strong fragrances.
Please note: this meetup group is designed for members and potential members of the American Wine Society. If you are not already an AWS member, you can attend 2 home events with the AWS Worcester meetup group before joining AWS (for insurance reasons).
