Security in the Cloud: AWS Resources and Best Practices

Networking reception with Appetizers and Drinks at Amazon Marketplace's office!

The AWS cloud infrastructure has been architected to be one of the most flexible and secure cloud computing environments available today. It provides an extremely scalable, highly reliable platform that enables customers to deploy applications and data quickly and securely. When using the AWS cloud, not only are infrastructure headaches removed, but so are many of the security issues that come with them.

Please join Amazon Web Services in Phoenix to learn about the security of the AWS cloud itself, the security resources that the platform makes available to our customers and best practices for maintaining security in the AWS cloud. Panel Interview with Local Customers as well!

Speakers

Bill Shinn | Principal Solutions Architect - Security, Amazon Web Services

Bill Shinn is a Principal Security Solution Architect at Amazon Web Services. He spends his time helping customers understand privacy, security and compliance as they move their business to AWS. Prior to AWS, Bill spent over 12 years managing and leading information security operations and architecture initiatives at some of the largest US financial institutions, including US Bank and JP Morgan Chase.

Steve Smiley gave a great lecture on solid state disks. A list of exact topics AWS members want to hear lectures on would help.

Relevant to "Jim Massey Challenge"? The third "S" in S5 is that DRAM is 1,000,000 faster than spinning disks. Oracle makes app developers choose where and when to place and position content. Ask Steve Smiley. Geo-info = https://www.google.com/calendar/render?eid=M3VuZnRxZG9nYmN1aWZ2ajc5Z3E5MGRnMGMgOXI5aXNoYzZ1bGR1Zzk2cTNnZ3RvbXJjM3NAZw&ctz=America/Phoenix&sf=true&output=xml

Ask to be sponsors (buy pizza's and sodas) for "S5 vs AWS: Panel of Member White Paper Authors": [masked]; [masked] - member's how-to instruction white papers telling their test results in "s5 vs aws". S5 = "Spark, Solaris, Storage, Stack, Self" (D.I.Y.) vs. AWS (encapulate 8 or 9 out of 10 roles, so you can concentrate on user developed products rather than IT necessities). P.S. TAKE ACTION! Email requests to sponsor you.

I have a wishlist item: Karen gives links to her collection of hands-on, case study, example code, walkthough, how-to, white papers. (and You Tube video links) Simple said, the May 6th lecture was great, now extend that to the best tutorial library you can find and give us the links. Thank you.

Awsome that AWS is certified to the Department of Defense approved, National IST data security framework standard. Also, that Seattle keynote speaker really drilled down to a deep hands-on control level to successfully navigate their permissions, boundaries, lock-outs, enablements architecture.

Karen, unfortunately I wasn't able to make it this evening. Any chance you might be able to share the presentation? Uploaded on here, or by email [masked] Thanks, Bon
