Ben Avery Shooting Facility (map)
Winter Range is akin to the Victorian Cowboy version of a Rennaisance Festival, though guns indeed replace swords here!
*Free Admission, $5 parking per vehicle, free shuttle from parking
**Eye protection (sunglasses are fine) REQUIRED, Ear protection HIGHLY recommended -Open 8am to 5 pm
I (Diana Given) will be shooting in the competition-hours not yet determined, so I will be around and join you all as time allows.
The Old West comes alive as nearly 1000 cowboys and girls compete in the SASS National Championship of Cowboy Action Shooting.
Competitors are required to shoot with 1800's style single action weapons and compete in a period character costume.
There are vendors selling everything from guns to period costumes, jewerly and victorian patterns! Don't forget the food-Chuck Wagon vittles, Buffalo burgers, and funnel cake to name a few of the eats available. There is also free exciting entertainment on site.
I advise looking at your map before heading over. Follow the directions for parking, then take the shuttle over to the main area. Wear comfortable shoes, there is quite a bit of walking!
This is a great event to find period clothing at reasonable prices. The food from the chuck wagons is pretty damn good. I am working this day so can't make it. Good luck on the competition Diana!
