Introduction

I'm a self-employed editor originally from London, here with my family. We came to Aarhus in 2007 after living for many years in Cairo, Egypt. Looking to make friends with other international people and families.

The group survives by members helping with events, even if only once a year. What infomation would make you feel comfortable to help out with events? What events could you help with?

International Parents meetups. I organized a meetup for parents of international children in September 2010.

The group is a social network for professionals, typically aged 25 to 45, working in Århus. Please describe yourself (age, work etc). How long have you been in Aarhus? What company are you with etc?

I'm 52. I'm a former magazine editor, now teaching a bit and setting up own editing/translating business. I like ideas - and architecture, music, history.

If you're not Danish, where are you from and what is your connection to Denmark?

I'm a Londoner originally. I left London for the Middle East in 1992 and lived there until we repatriated to Europe - Denmark, in our case - in 2007. I'm an accompanying spouse, and spouse is professor of Arabic/Islamic studies at the university. You could say we are freelance expats - moving around independently, not under anyone's protection. We participate in Danish things (our children are in the Danish school system) but don't belong there, nor at all the corporate expat world. So it's a lonely furrow to plough.

What sorts of events would you be most interested in attending? (e.g., meals, cinema trips, book clubs, family events, other)

Family events, book clubs, coffee.

What is your primary interest in the group? (e.g., general socializing, language skills development, etc)

Meeting like-minded people. This means both meeting other older women with complicated (and interesting) lives, and meeting up with other parents of international families. It's very hard here in Denmark to be international and independent-minded. I'd like to meet other people who insist on occupying their own ground - a third culture of their own making.

  • Further more I think it is really uncalled for to give my home a bad review when you didn't set step in it. I opened up my home to the international, provided drinks and cake, without getting anything in return. A little appreciation would be nice.

  • Hi Lucy, I am sorry that you couldn't find you was yesterday. My address is very clearly market if you had searched on google maps. I you were at all in doubt of where it was, then you could have contacted me and asked for my number, I would have gladly given it to you. But do not want to write my phone number on a site that is visible to the entire online world.

  • Hellooo.. Well, I've just gotten back from holiday too, before that I was sick and also slammed with work, so I haven't been part of
the planning. Maybe we should just meet up for a social on Sunday? Not an official party? Just some coffee and chitchat?

  • Hi Lucy and others :-)

I have two girls, 4 and 7 years old. We are danish but lived in Spain for 2 years, the kids have learned English and the oldest also Catalan. I would like them to still be part of an international community and keep hearing and speaking english, so I would be very interested in meeting up.

Hope to meet more international parents and kids soon,
    Karen
