Warping Workshop @ iComputer

iComputer (map)

Selected By: Marc Wei

Chris Lawhead is officially taking over the teaching arm of the Ableton User Group. I will still be engaged in workshops, but the migration to Modern.DJ is my main focus.  So...we have scheduled the first in a line of monthly workshops for the Denver/Boulder area.

On the plate for Feburary: Warping!

This workshop covers the basics of warping and advanced methods for warping.  Learn how to warp fast and easy, select the correct warp engine, and prepare your data for performance, and use Ableton to the fullest!

  • Basic Warping : How to warp a new track with ease.
  • Beyond the Basics : Data handling, modulation, & audio limitations
  • From Clip to Platter : Organization of data using the Platter Method
  • Good to Know : Know the pitfalls and avoid bad habits

This workshop is perfect for the beginner and intermediate Ableton user.

Use this link : http://abltn.com/monthly for registration, payment, and other information on this effort or the meet-up site.

Cost : $10 presale, $12 at the door Payment at this address : http://abltn.com/monthly (will forward to correct pge)

Other stuff :

We need to expand coverage and hit the reset button. So Ableton Colorado is NOT changing one bit, but it is getting absorbed by the larger entity of Modern.DJ.  The Mission statment is simple :

Dedicated to improving and reshaping electronic music with the aid of practical experimentation, scientific knowledge, new technology, and forward thinking.

The Control Surface Web-App is located on the site and free to use. We are kicking off the site with NAMM coverage.

NEXT MEET UP IS SCHEDULED!

  • 12Feb 2012 @ the Walnut Room
  • Mia on Compression (side chain and parallel)
  • Post-NAMM decompression (show and tell)
  • Undecided still!

Taking suggestions - How about some Max Requests?

Thanks for the informative session and a brief overview of the countless things Ableton can do. Can you make the handout PDFs available for download?

it was okay. too techy for me. and it was 100% DJ oriented and it wasn't listed as such. i think these guys need to get a better grasp of where people are at and teach accordingly, and with more emphasis on the bigger picture. More accurate definitions of words and phrased used would be appreciated. Less talking about the teachers and their accomplishments. I only comment on this because I think these Meetups are great, and I hope all constructive feedback will only make them stronger. I definitely learned a few things and I'm excited to continue attending them. Thanks to all who work hard to put these together.

Chris and Marc: Thanks, great presentation tonight. You filled in a lot of gaps for me with killer useful tricks. I am happy to steal and repeat many of them. :) Awesome

A fair amount of new information for me to process. Organizers knew their material and are able to teach it well. I would limit the classes to a short time or break into sessions with each instructor. Overall good time and well worth my time and $.
