This is a group for those rare few of us who passionately study philosophy. Any level of education or familiarity is welcome, but if you would like to join us, please be ready to do some preparation. Academic Philosophy PDX aims to be a focused, in depth study group of... well, academic philosophy! We will select and engage in close readings of articles from professional journals, as well as tackle philosophical classics.
Group meetings will be kept small (5-6 people) and the attending members will be requested to have undertaken a careful reading of the material. We will get together over coffee and ask questions, share interpretations, consider, and critique some particular article or book chapter and then discuss our own opinions about the topic area addressed by the work.
Topics which will be considered include: Philosophy of Science, Philosophy of Mind, Philosophy of Language, Metaphysics, Epistemology, and more. Members will be invited to suggest their own favorite sub-disciplines, nominate papers to study, or even submit their own work for group consideration.
Let's get together and learn something!
