Indian Bayou WMA afternoon paddle

  • Needs a date

  • Indian Bayou WMA

  • I put in yesterday and paddled 3 hours from the WMA launch to Fordoche, then circled back to the canal. The water is high so there is lots of opportunity for woodland paddling. (It also makes it easy to get off of the trail and lost, so be careful.) It was a beautiful paddle, in that stark winter sort of way. Lots of birds, and no snakes or aligators. Anybody interested in setting a group trip on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon in sometime in the next month? Suggest a date and time.

I'd be interested but being a photographer I need to know several weeks (absolute minimum) ahead of time.

Not today - watch for a trip in 2-3 weekends. They are drawing down the water in the basin right now, so I'm trying to determine if levels will be high enough for kayaks to make it through safely.

How about July 19 at 10am? I am new to the group so I am just putting suggestions. If any other time works better for people we could always adjust. I have only been once on a herpetology field trip, but it was beautiful! I am a wildlife student so if people want to bring binoculars I can share what I know! I can also bring some ID books because I am probably a little rusty. Address:

Great idea on the hike. Where is the park? Maybe you could pick a day and time and post the event so we can get a group going.

I know this is more of a kayaking/canoeing group but maybe we could get things started back up by a simple hike or birding event. If yall would like to get a group together and go to Sam Houston Jones State Park for a hike/birding trip I think it would be a good start to becoming more active.

o.k. so we're looking for a date - how about the 17th of May? right now I'm open on that date. My main concern, Tori, for the lakes is in getting lost & my concern for the bayous is where to put in & take out. So really the date needs to be one that you can make.

You are right that we have not been very active. I would love to see activities going on every weekend. I was the original organizer over a year ago, and I am still hopeful that someone will come along that will suggest actitivties on a regular basis, and that there will always be 4-10 people who want to show up and paddle. ANY TAKERS? ANY LEADERS? I've paid the dues for the next six months, so we are poised for fun.

I guess this group isn't very active from the comments I see.

I can't suggest a date, waiting to hear from some out of company sometime next month. I'm planning to come because my company may not be in the mix, but keep me posted Tori. And if it works out for my husband, maybe both of us.

Google maps, and my husband who grew up boating in the basin. :)
