this was a reasonable introduction for attendees with little familiarity with machining. it may not be enough to start using the mill without some supervision.

I also felt that I didn't give enough to feel confident turning people loose on the machine. Can you suggest what you think needs to be added to improve the class? My thought to actually have people cut something, doing all the steps themselves, but that could end up taking a lot of time, unless we limit the group to be very small, like 4-5 people. Thoughts?

I'm not so sure it's the number of people that presents the problem, but rather the amount of material that needs to be covered. Measurement, speeds & feeds, and basic terminology is enough material on its own to fill a couple hours of time. Machine setup, tramming, workholding and operations could comprise the "hands-on" side.
So, maybe break it into 2 session, one for the basics/demo, then a separate hands on session?

Family in town so need to drop last minute :-/ Looking forward to learning about the mill next time!
Thanks for doing this class. I'm a non-member, hoping to learn a little bit more about machining.
