MAKE International 3D Printing Meetup

Join MAKE magazine http://makezine.com for its first International maker meet-up. We want to help makers find each other in their local communities and get the conversation started.

Our theme for the first meetup is 3D printing. We’ll showcase MAKE’s Ultimate Guide to 3D Printing which features 15 of the hottest 3D printers on the market, and hits newsstands November 20th. Come see what 3D printing is all about. Bring your questions and your 3D printed item for “show and tell!” Everyone who joins gets a free PDF of the issue!

During the meetup, the MAKE editors will host a live Google+ Hangout On Air at 6PM PST/9PM EST https://plus.google.com/+MAKE/posts to talk about the best 3D printers to buy for your specific interests. They will also share a behind the scenes look at what went into testing the latest printers. They’ll offer tips and hints to maximize your 3D printing experience. You’ll be able to engage in a live chat with them and ask questions about 3D printing and design and share your own experiences.

Whether you’re a designer, inventor, hacker, tinkerer or weekend DIYer--anyone interested in finding out more about 3D printing and design is welcome! We suggest getting together at convenient locations such as a hackerspace, coffee shop, community center, library or restaurant. Bring your laptops, tablets, or smartphones to access the Internet and G+ Hangout On Air. The first 25 organizers will receive a MAKE meetup welcome kit that includes: 12 copies of the MAKE Ultimate Guide to 3D Printing, MAKE t-shirts, notebooks, stickers, and buttons. The top 3 organizers with the highest number of rsvps will get a $200 stipend for beverages and food.

Incoherent event with little direction or ability to interact beyond stating your name and number of printers. Technical problems detracted from the experience. Little preamble or none at all was given to explain why anyone who was speaking needed to be heard. It was heartening to see the great number of makerspaces and makers making an attempt to connect.
