Help a cyclist with visual impairment (or other disability) to ride a bike with the Achilles Tandem Program.
Achilles was founded in 1983 by current CEO Dick Traum who was the first runner to complete a marathon with a prosthetic leg. Now in its 25th year, Achilles has enabled people from all walks of life, including those with physical impairments to enjoy the health giving benefits of exercise in a supportive, social and encouraging environment. In so doing Achilles promotes personal achievement, enhances self-esteem and breaks down barriers between people.
Achilles simply helps people to exercise in a safe, friendly and fun environment. Members can walk, jog, bike or run but the focus is placed firmly on fun.
Achilles is always looking for new volunteers. We provide training facilities, coaching, disability awareness training and even cycle maintenance classes all you have to give is a little time. Over 115,000 volunteer hours were committed to the cause last year and as the New York Chapter expands Achilles needs even more time from people like you.
