Acoustic Guitar at the Park - Stuyvesant Park

  • Sep 8, 2013 · 3:00 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

Join us at the park to play acoustic guitar and sing. Geared for intermediate and beginner (advanced beginner) level guitarists and for singers. We typically play contemporary and classic rock, alternative, pop and R&B. We have some great songs for female vocalists as well. We will play in small groups so that everyone has the chance to participate, learn new songs and share techniques.

I have posted many songs on the Meetup site that you can practice, print out and bring to the park. Log onto the Meetup site and navigate to the 'More' menu and click on the 'Files' tab to view and download the songs. Many of the songs come from fellow group members, so feel free to email me any songs with chords in a word document that you would like me to add online for the group at [masked]. Instructions for submitting songs are posted on the Discussion Board.

Bring your capo, a guitar strap, picks, a music stand if you have one, and a good attitude. There are no dues, but everyone can bring healthy food, snacks and drinks to share with the group during our 'snack break'.

The Meetup will be canceled if there is rain, so check the web site on bad weather days for updates.

Directions: We will meet at Stuyvesant Square Park closest to 15th street and just west of 2nd avenue in the southeast corner of the square. Easy access from the Union Square trains or L train. See the map below. It's a small park so you shouldn't have any problem finding us, but there we will be on the side west of 2nd avenue so don't go looking for us east of second avenue. The park has plenty of shade and benches which are perfect for hot summer days.

Thanks for everyone who played with us today. We missed a few of our vocalists today, but still had an awsome time making great music together.

Looks like a great day. As I mentioned, I will be arriving at around 2:30 for anyone who wants to come a little early and try out some new songs. Don't forget to bring some healthy and/or delicious snacks!

Hi, yes I have two song books and of course my music stand. See everyone tomorrow!

Thanks Danny, I just saw that Alma rsvp'd, so I expect that she will bring a music stand and a couple of song books. Everybody is encouraged to practice the standards posted on the invite and I added a few new songs to some of the lists (most at the end of the lists) for those that have time to check them out.
    - Kiss from a Rose and She Talks to Angels were added to the Radiohead list. Hopefully Danner learned the lead to the later.
    - Jumpin Jack Flash, Can't Find My Way Back Home, Give Me Some Loving, and People Get Ready were added to the Rolling Stones list.
    - I added Gimme Shelter to the female vocals song list since the female vocals are so prominent in that song. There was also an update to 'Big Girls Don't Cry'.
Some minor updates to a various other songs.

Should be a nice day tomorrow. Please remember to RSVP if you plan on coming so that we can plan accordingly.
